Are you sure it's food poisoning, there is a bug going round... I know as today I am after sitting with someone else who was (but assuring me it was her gluten allergy playing up)

Oh

I have incredibly vivid memories of my last food poisoning. It was a bloomin' nightmare - while catching someone else's bug was also cringeworthy I always note how utterly horrible that food poisoning experience was. With the caught worst bugs being on a 6-7 on a scale from 1 to 10, FP was a 9.5 or thereabouts. TLDR: It was BAD.

Whatever it is Dodygken, get well soon and if you want to get yourself tested for food poisoning I suggest you do this as soon as possible since different pathogens remain in the body for different amounts of time.

A warning: Though I took the end of the bilateral turbo-exit phase and my looking more like a human than a ghost and finally feeling less like I had been run through the spin-dryer on the superfast cycle to mean that I was around the bend and therefore it could only get better, it took several days for everything to be back to normal even after the stuff was completely out of my system.

Me thinks so too... Last week I went to a restaurant which I've been to quite often, never had any previous problems, but the next day I was also sick Luckily only 1-2 days.

Hope you feel well soon, I find Bioflorin helps (as soon as you are able to keep food down)

Beer is a pretty good way of replacing electrolytes. You can class it as medicinal...

Last time out I did complain (and got 10 free lunches) - so considering I won't be going back there again - what should I pitch for in terms of compensation this time.

If you use naturtrüb or Weizenbeer you could also class it as catalytical, or cataclysmical.

What did you eat ? I became sick last week after eating in a Swiss restaurant, sausages, polenta, that kind of stuff. I have been sick three times until now because of sausages. Now you ask why you eat them ? I wouldn't if I had had the choice, but I went out with a group and they only offered sausages.

How do you know it was the sausages and not one of the other things on your plate?

Re: Food Poisoning from work

Good question. It is the third time I got sick after eating Swiss food and there were no sausages involved then. But sausages have made me sick before.

You might want to try to find a common denominator in your eaten sausages - is it the meat (can you not tolerate/are you allergic to pork, veal, chicken etc.), is it a spice, an E number, an additive etc.

Of course doing this with restaurant foods won't be easy, but if you e.g. ordered a Schweinsbratwurst every time and got sick every time, you could buy one from different places (butcher, Denner, Migros, Aldi etc.) and do a cross-test. If you get sick from all of them look at the packages and narrow down the ingredient until you've found the culprit.

Of course this should only be done if you still like Schweinsbratwurst (or whatever sausage it is you want to test with) and if your reaction was not life-threatening or a serious danger to your health or otherwise debilitating/too uncomfortable.

By the way, sausages often contain lactose, as do other convenience foods, most breads and foods with more or less hidden butter or fat like rösti, polenta etc. - if you think lactose might be the cause, one of the easiest ways to find out is to completely eliminate lactose from your diet for 2+ weeks and then drink a glass of plain milk on an empty stomach.
For some, traces of lactose can have just as bad consequences as a glass of milk btw.

The sickest I've ever been from eating in a restaurant (in Europe) was after having a salad.

For about the 5th time in the last 2 years I have been struck down with severe food poisoning from work - not slightly loose movements - but full on evacuation from either end - every 15mins - for 8 hours through out the night.

Only once I had cleared midday today was I able to keep down a Buscopan to take away the cramping.

The first couple of times I let it roll, it happens, its not ideal, but I survived. But now I have the feeling the company are out to kill me! You should feel safe eating at work - but now I don't.

Free lunches for your enemies on EF!
