Amsterdam, NY, London, some tiny towns in Germany, France, Croatia, you name it.
Nah, in France they stare. Or flirt, or something.

And probably Croatia is about the same.
The Swiss aren't that special in this regard...

Well if you walk down the street and look people in the eyes they will quickly look the other way.Try it. The latinos dont look away so quickly. Of course that does does not apply to handy gazer zombies. And of course its the way you look-sort of with that void " theres no one here "look.

Yeah but isn't this what we all normally do? Except of course, when there's something to ahem, check out. And even then, a quick glance is sufficient. Oder?

Seriously, my guess is that some people who complain about the Swiss stare are staring themselves. Take a book, or something.

So, in real life, how did you get on? Did you take anyone to task about them staring at you?

That's how people determine if the other intends to greet, not the head, whatever. Avoid eye contact means no greeting.

Granted, that may work less well in bigger towns (say, more than 30k inhabitants) or in areas with a high proportion of foreigners, but the pattern's still there, even in Altstetten twenty years ago.

Re: 9 months in Switzerland - a honest report.

this is really interesting cause i have the same experience being in your country as a tourist for a month. I would never ever go back there. It was the worst holiday i have ever had in my entire life. The country is indeed great, but i saw parents beating their children so hard in public that i couldn't believe my eyes. If you don't know Russian, then you cannot even buy anything as everything is written in Russian. You won't see anything in English anywhere. Not knowing Russian and specially speaking in English will worsen the scenario as no one will respond to you even if they know English.

Um...I don't think this is the discussion board you are looking for...

Russian isn't, and has never been, a Swiss language.

Re: 9 months in Switzerland - a honest report.

Are you refering to Switzerland or Russia?

According to your first post on the forum in June, you lived in Switzerland from 2011-2013, or am I mistaken in my interpretation of this post?

Quote:
The apartment was bought by me in 2011, I lived there until 2013 when my job contract was over and I returned home to Portugal.

Also the house is near the public transportation, a gym, and other facilities. The house has a parking space for one car. I have spent a great amount of money with the apartment and my request is that you treat it like it was your own.

I have the house keys with me. When I do find a reliable tenant I will return to Zurich to show the house and complete the lease agreement.

Yes, Blueangel, I think you might have misinterpreted something.

The way you have quoted it makes it appear that these are Ariaz own words about him/herself.
However, as I read that particular post, Ariaz was not writing that he or she had lived in Switzerland from 2011-2013, but rather was quoting an ad he or she had read, and asking here on the forum whether or not that ad was a scam.

Or maybe it is now me who is mistaken... don't know for sure.

At least I shared my experience, and didn't insult anyone. FYI, It is the experience of 10 different nationalities while staying in Russia for a month, not just mine.Your post is also irrelevant as it adds nothing to the thread.

It was obvious to anyone with half a brain what she was referring to, namely that while Switzerland is foreigner-friendly and English-speakers can get by in daily life perfectly fine, Russia is not. It was at least a valid response to the OP's criticisms.

Seems like you are are playing the idiot here.
