Re: 9 months in Switzerland - a honest report.

Okay OP.

As mentioned on your previous thread, in which I implied that you should make a separate thread (good work BTW), in order for "the Swiss" people to make assumptions against you, they have to be identifying you somehow as a "foreigner" to make prejudicial judgments.

I don't believe that it's because you're ugly (there are enough of us "uglies" out there who don't experience this). So what is it in your opinion that's making you stand-out?

As mentioned previously in this thread, I know how I identify certain Russian circles in Zürich...

He's already said he will be staying due to financial considerations.

That doesn't mean he doesn't have the right to moan about aspects of Switzerland. It's not that easy for most people just pack up and leave on whim just because they don't like somewhere.

I guess OP was trying to make a joke!
Ah, hadn't managed to plough through endless pages of rant to pick up the intention but I was half-assuming it was a typo.

On the bright side, maybe the OP's "GSOH" will make up for his self-confessed ugly looks, in that case...

Does anyone else find it ironic that someone from one of the most racist, prejudiced, undemocratic and most deeply unpopular countries on Earth is complaining about the same thing in a country known for being, if not the friendliest, one of the safest, most democratic and tolerant countries on Earth?
You think you are clever, right?
No it is not ironic at all. Just because he/she was born in Russia, he is not responsible for all the flaws of his people. He did not choose his ethnicity and he is fully entitled to complain about other nation's shortcomings.

Yes. I will stay. Then I go. I will stay for two months or so, then I'm leaving with the first samaljot. I'd go earlier, but 2 months is the earliest period available to buy low fare tickets.

OP - pre-empting your reply (you initiated the thread, so you need to stand-up):

“The Swiss” typically don’t like/need to ostentatiously display wealth (although of course there are exceptions). Up and coming wannabe’s also excluded from this equation.

Reminds me remotely of the ‘new money’ vs. old money’ mentality that existed in the U.K. when I was there.

You think it is OK to approve of stereotyping if the target stereotypes other people and - in your opinion- deserves it?

We can spend the rest of the weekend playing word games. You might try all you can but really you and the rest of the EF bullies are not as clever of you think.

I don't know, maybe I should call on airport and ask where the first low fare plane flies to.

It is a bit of a mystery to me how you could imagine that I support, condone, or practice, stereotyping. Perhaps if you were to read even a small portion of my posts you would realise this. What you call "word games" are on my part generally a result of actually reading what has been written and responding to that. Your methods may differ.

Read the OP - he is quite clearly assigning certain (mostly negative) character traits to all Swiss... Do you think this is something other than targeting stereotypes?

I've not much use for stereotypes, even in the case of idiots.

"Bully"? Really?

Take the train, Zurich-Vienna-Moscow, plenty of time to contemplate your decision and convince yourself how much better elsewhere is.

Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence....

Look before you leap. If you can, then organise a new job at your destination within the constraints of your current contracts (both rental and employment) then make your move.

I can see that you are unhappy. Don't compound that by adding unnecessary expense or risking a bad reference on your resume.

Not really. The rep/bobbies are subjectively given and obviously many EFers agree with the OP - fully or to some extent. I would hate to live in a world where everyone agrees with each other. The OP, like the rest of us, is entitled to think whatever he likes.

Fully fully agree with you, but with all that the OP found wrong with Switzerland coupled with the fact most of us who live here can find some positive points, probably more than 50% positive as we continue to be here, there are not many points in common.
