major construction noise only between 7-8:30h

Well, I decided my first post in this forum to be in this section
(hoping it would be my last real frustration)

I have been here for a couple of weeks, but I have no idea why the building construction across the street makes all of its daily major noise between 7 and 8:30-9 in the morning!?? - The guys come at 6:50 and five minuted later one is woken up by hammering, drilling, etc. That continues for one-two hours and then it gets much quieter.

Is there any regulation so that they have to do all noisy works before office hours? - or they just enjoy waking up people around

thanks

Quiet time in Switzerland ends at 7am so they are entitled to do work from this time onwards.

Be happy my church bells wake me every day of the week at 7am, at least your construction work won't be forever

well, I am sure they are in their right to do the constrction after 7h, but I am just annoyed they stop the loud noise at 8:30...

but church bells every day at 7am... wow... though it could be worse e.g. trains passing by right in front of the building

Re: major construction noise only between 7-8:30h

I think it is done to prove to everyone they are on the job on time. They then have a longish break around 9 a.m. to compensate for the early start. I am surprised that you don't mention lunchtime though. Around here, we get a repeat of the 7 a.m. racket from
1 p.m. until about 1.30 p.m. (when Mums with small children have given up trying to get the youngster back to sleep again) and then maybe a quick burst at 5.30 p.m. or even 6 p.m. to show us they haven't gone home yet...
Mind you, having waited for days on end for workers to turn up just in time for their 11 a.m. break in England, I think I prefer the 7 a.m., 1 p.m. 5.30 p.m. routine - and sometime or other they get tired of annoying us all, finish off the job and go away for a few weeks.

You don't live on Grungasse down from Stauffacher do you? We are suffering the same experience at the moment. They must be waiting with hammer raised for the stroke of 7am and from the looks of the contruction it's going to be many months of torment to come too.

Kingdom for a sniper rifle...

Re: major construction noise only between 7-8:30h

According to an official guideline I've found online, the standard noisy hours for construction sites on weekdays are 7:00-13:00. But I'm not capable of figuring out the finer details.

Re: major construction noise only between 7-8:30h

Atleast the noise is in the morning hours, use it as Alaram. ) [I truly understand how annoying it can be].
I live in Oerlikon in a highriser beside a train track and there is some track work going on after 11 30pm every night. Every train that pass by honks or rings the bell for the safety of workers. I couldnt sleep till 2 am in the beginning for a few night, but I think I am getting used to now. Now imagine that. I havent yet mentioned the big lights right infront of my room. As mimi 1981 said, it will be over sometime in future, so there is a hope.

It might be because they have (apologies for the spelling) s'noonie. Which is their morning tea and biscuits. Do you find the hammering starts about half an hour later?

It's "z'nüni" which means "at 9 o'clock" = morning tea and biscuits.
It's repeated in the afternoon at "z'vieri" = "at 4 o'clock" = afternoon tea and biccies (sp?)

'My' noise was not a real construction site, which perhaps accounts for the afternoon recurrence.
It was merely someone knocking down interior walls and drilling into the concrete about 2 metres from my ear. All over now - till next time.

Re: major construction noise only between 7-8:30h

Theres builders doing work right outside my building. Thankfully my apartment is at the back of the building but alas theres no escape. A temporary bus stop is now set up beside the entrace laneway to the back of the building, so now I get woken up at 5.45 with the buses revving their engines. Apparently if one tenant must suffer then everyone must suffer.

Don't know what you lot are all moaning about, you should try a seven year old for persistance and noise and there's no one to complain to.

This reminds me when my daughter was about 4 months old and I was coming home from work and could hear her 3 houses away through doubleglazing. Thankfully she is rarely noisy but when she is... What is it with little girls and shrieking?

Thanks wangone, this confirms my long held suspicion that there is a worldwide construction workers' agreement to do the noisiest jobs first thing in the morning, make sure everybody is awake, and then have their breakfast break!
