Well, I ordered a PC from the HP website on 19 Nov. It turned up at the local post office on 30 Nov, exactly on schedule...
In the meantime they had sent me order acknowledgements, progress updates etc etc. No problems with delivery at all.

| | | Re: [Dell.ch] Order progression (buy now, pay later process) | Quote: | | | | | I have ordered three dell machines in the past 4 years and was very pleased with the service. I paid by credit card and the systems were delivered as promised . Even before. I was able to track the systems from Ireland "where the orders were processed until delivery to my home" I personally have no problems in dealing with dell. Only bitch is about printers. When you order dell printers you are forced to buy dell the replacement cartridges from Dell. However last week I was in Media Markt and they now sell replacement cartridges for dell printers under another name. | | | | | Ditto here - 4 machines, the last in February 2007. Paid by cc, received in 8 days and tracked all the way and arrived on the morning they said.
Avoided Dell printers, so no probs there.
I have no service agreement as I have never had a Dell go wrong - until this summer. One of the raid hard disk showed as failed, though everything worked fine. I phone Dell in Switzerland and their service people guy ran though with me on the phone all the checks, in English. After 30 minutes all checked out OK and we reset the warning.
Lob: the problem you have seems to be GE credit not Dell. Though you could argue that Dell chose to use GE...

Hi all,
I think the problem is that so many people try to buy stuff on credit -- I checked for my new bed and was told the application alone will take 10+ days...
It seems to be quite a hassle (the staff did not look happy when I popped the question about payment in the near future instead of in cash :-). And I can imagine that they have to follow up lots of clients for that money.. as is usual with credits, most people that use it will buy something they can't afford!
Other than that I wouldn't know - I'd rather go to a shop to get my Computer done to my specifications than doing it online - I just don't trust those buggers....
Have a great X-mas, Eid and happy New Year!

The PC/Mac debate is completely irrelevant to this thread not to mention patronising and annoying. So if apple be the food of hype, groan on.

not irrelevant at all, only in your opinion. i also dont see why it is patronising. no doubt you will explain it to me in a very non patronising way?
lob is having trouble with a product or service.
i merely state, that I would recommend an alternative product or service. I used to use dell myself. I now use apple. im a much happier fuzzier person inside, from the ordering to the delivery to the use, on all fronts apple made me satisfied.

No problem. Please let me know:
a) when Dell start making Macs
b) when suggesting buying an Apple and nothing else in a post, is helpful in expedition of a Dell order or a reflection on their delivery policies.
c) any other relevance of an Apple to a thread entitled : "[Dell.ch] Order progression (buy now, pay later process)"
If your post had included the logic behind your procurement decision of Apple it then it may be more palatable. As it is, it just looks like a Mac-Good/PC-Bad snipe. Which is dull, at best.

Isnt there a "chalking a line in the air" smiley that I can invoke at this point ?
I remember having a discussion the other night with someone about the forum who seem to want to continue an argument held online (you know who you are). They seemed impervious to my point that : it doesnt matter. Its not real. No one really cares.
Its a funny old world.

sorry, really didnt want to turn this into yet another mac versus pc.
just wanted to let him know he could still investigate apple as an option. unfortunately its hard to do that without the mac versus pc debate cropping up, as you so rightly comment.
lets leave that for now.
good luck lob with getting your order back on track.

And I am on hold to Dell. For the last 20 minutes.

Finally, 20 minutes after being on hold, the frankly crap person states that my orders were failing because my delivery address was not the same as the address for GE Money.
Erm.....it just states that Dell cannot deliver to a postbox. Duh.
Erm.....what about actually REJECTING my order in that state and informing me why? Duh.
Order number 4 in now - 500 francs cheaper for better machine. F-You, Dell....if only this machine was not the one I absolutely wanted.

Other machine powermac with OS X Tiger.
No windows at home, and never will be again. Unix. Far better OS.
I am also extremely interested in the Asus eee, with Ubuntu installed, but even with Xandros installed, that would be a more useful machine for a big percentage of people, than a windoze machine.

dave | | | | | Dave, patronising and annoying?
Please explain.
A Mac is a far superior product in many ways to a PC. It costs more but user satisfaction is immeasurably higher. Just as a PC with windows wiped off and Linux installed. Both are solutions to a modern scourge which is Windows. I have recently had the pleasure of cleaning up a PC laptop, with a processor speed three times the speed of either of my machines, with even more RAM also, and their speed in use felt less than either of my machines, even when optimized.
NO WAY is it patronising and annoying, in fact I would say one is mad not to consider the alternatives of Mac and Linux.

Mac = Smug.

I'm sure the clue is in the thread title.
And what if someone (caveman, medieval jester, luddite) wants to buy a PC?
