While giving useful advice you might also want to advise that Switzerland does not like people importing medicines & large quantities might be confisticated; the rule is "one months supply" - whatever that means.
Which is why i toss the packs out and only bring in a small number and split them across family members. Not bringing in enough to even look like its over the rule.

A few headache packs, cough medicine and bandages

Never suggested to start an import business

Personally dont even need hayfever tablets they just make the problem worse more interested in regular medicines and maybe headache tablets. Agree there is a massive difference and people already know this but comparing something that is less then 1CHF a tablet is a waste, why not focus on things that actually cost a lot of money.

Why not simply tell people to stock up in the Uk when they visit.

By the why when you do want to stock up there the supermarkets think everyone is a drug addict and wont let you buy more then 3 packets in any single purchase so you will need to make multiple visits to get a decent amount.

Much more useful advice then pointing out the blantly obvious thing that medicine here is expensive. In case people dontknow Switzerland protects the Pharmacy industry rigorously so instead of pointint out the obvious work out how to either live with it or get around it. These items are cheap in places like the UK where Pharmacists have basically been screwed as a profession by the government allowing large supermarket chains to destroy small businesses and pharmacists are only oneofthe industries they have killed.
Cheers for the medical advice and lecture.

Personally, hayfever tablets do help with my allergies. I don't use headache tablets and I very rarely get headaches. For a hangover, I just drink lots of water.

Pointing out that a common medicine is 8 times more expensive here may serve as a little reminder to stock up when next abroad, don't you think?

Feel free to support your local apotheke if you're worried that supermarket chains are destroying small businesses. In an un-protected market, small shops have given way to large retailers which in turn are closing because of online competition and the way we choose to shop... Blockbusters, Comet, HMV, etc. are history.

You went to the wrong place most photograhers in Winterthur charge about 30CHF for the same which is more then 15Euro butnot as high as photo ganz in Zurich. Get away from the center of Zurich for things like this.
The photo booths found at train stations are cheaper and passport approved (supposedly) and offer photos in colour and black and white.

I dont support the local stores and HMV and the like deserve to be out of business as they charge too much for a crap product and service. If they had reacted to the market they might have survived. Borders in Australia also failed primarily because they charge far too high a prices. The main stream bookshops in the UK will soon go the same path as Amazon has a superior Business service and vastly more reasonable prices.

I'm surprised Argos stores is still hanging in there. Their new "click and collect" business model worked over the Christmas period and made them a profit but I think they'll have to adapt further to survive.

Re: Absurd Swiss prices

Over 300 million in fines in Germany for members of a pricing cartel on sausage and ham; 125 million alone for Bell (owned by Swiss Coop).

Just think how prices would look here if cartels were also fined

Presumably they'd be hiked even higher, to pay the massive fines.

Re: Absurd Swiss prices

Tried to order some bermudas from a Swiss catalogue, but they didn't have my size anymore, so looked at the French equivalent (I have friends just over the border who will take orders for me)..

French price: E62.95 Swiss price: CHF 94.90. Googled the conversion:

66.20 so a massive 28.70 added on.

Are you joking- most of EF might be, we are on UK £ pensions! (we came here when the £ was 2.52- so do the sums at about 1.40 now!).

Lib, beauty has its price- but the point is that said beauty would cost me nearly 30 Euros , about 40% more if I get delivered to me here, rather than to my friend just up the road.
