General Cigarette Smoking complaint thread

I consider myself quite a tolerant person. I don't really mind people hurting themselves as long as they don't hurt me.

Now: why the hell *every* *single* *woman* between the age of 14 and 30 smokes here? WHY?
You know what annoys me the most: that after 30 they marry, have children and become health-nazis: nothing else than birchermuesli, yoghurt, morning jogging with any weather. And don't get me started about the carriages attached to bikes with kids in them.

On a general note: don't you have the feeling that the Swiss smoke just because they can? What's the point of lighting up a cigarette, getting on the bus, getting of it and LIGHTING ANOTHER ONE?

I have never been a smoker so I probably can't figure out the painful need for nicotine. But I still think it's ridiculous around here.

Let me feel I am not alone, please.

I should have probably pointed that out: I have the feeling that women smoke WAY more than men. Don't you?

I think that "nazi" is well in the english language as a person who has dictatorial attitudes, be it overall or regarding a particular aspect. I think it should be pretty obvious that I am not picturing people dressed in black walking funny.

The proximity of Nazi and Swastika is too close for these PC days. I know what you're trying to mean but it's too easily construed wrongly. Try using Stapo or something similar; not quite as offensive.

Amen sir. Just thought using that reference was a little bad taste. Swiss website-Nazis, ect. Has had some bad press in the past.

In the very same article you quote there's an interesting paragraph about the satirical use of such a symbol. Plus, the title of this subforum says "If you are easily offended, please look elsewhere"

don't get me wrong, saying it tongue-in-cheek with people you know in person I would not criticise but you're captured here in print. You can't get the slant intended on the internet of course.

i dont like smoking in general but i dont like ppl who complain specially about smoking women because it's discriminating.. smoking men and women smell the same (bad). those health-maniacs can be hypocrites but (at least) they are harmless (apart from annoying ppl).

But if one only kisses people of one sex, one is more affected by that one gender smoking, no? So it isn't discriminating any more than only kissing people of one gender is

At Uni women seem to smoke as a form of weight control, all the "so skinny their legs don't meet" girls practically run outside during breaks to smoke. Which is ridiculous if you ask me.

There definitely seem to be more women smokers than men.

I'm just looking forward to more smoke-free places, I can barely talk after a night out and I've given up on wearing contacts, the smoke is pretty tough on my mucous membranes.

Yeah, what IS the point in going to the forest if all you do there is smoke? We went for a walk near Rigiblick in Zurich on Sunday and there is something very odd about wandering through a lovely, fresh smelling forest and suddenly get ciggie fumes up your nose. Philistines.

Unfortunately, a "Buy now, pay dearly later" strategy. Where I used to work, one "irresponsible" lass even smoked during her pregnancy.
