Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

Hi,
as you may know from September Easyjet will fly from Luton to Zurich. However, this is being done at the cost of the evening flight from Luton to Basel. The only night in the future where there will be an evening flight to Basel is Saturday night. Which is weird as most people are likely to fly back on a Sunday.
Maybe if enough people contact Easyjet they will reconsider this decision. I have no problem if Easyjet want to fly to Zurich but not at the cost of Basel.

Martin

Re: Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

It will be too bad if EasyJet do reduce their Basel service, but I have to say I was not so impressed with using them to fly to Stansted.

Sure, the airfare was marginally cheaper than BA or Swiss, but but once you factor in the cost of getting to and from Stansted any saving was quickly swallowed up.

We paid £40 to get to Central London (one way) and the Stansted Express was cancelled on Sunday meaning we would have had to pay £50 for a taxi or take a 1.5 hour bus journey from Liverpool Street. Luckily we were able to get a lift there.

Given the option in future I will probably use Swiss as at least you can land in London City airport and getting to somewhere useful is not such a chore.

The EJ flight to Liverpool was not bad though and I hope they continue to provide that route.

Cheers,
Nick

Quite so.

Has anyone noticed that budgest airlines don't actually make it that Easy to get to where you want to go?

They normally drop you (your chav bling and screaming children) somewhere a couple of hours away leaving you to spend what you thought you saved getting to where you thought you had bought a ticket to.

I've been around Zürich long enough to know that originally EasyJet only flew Luton-Zürich. They switched to Basle when Zurich put up their fees.

I suppose thats why they are so cheap (well, fairly cheap). It comes down to the fact that you get what you pay for. If you want to fly to somewhere like London City, then you have to pay the premium that such airports charge.

...and they will switch back again the next time. There is no commitment to provide a long term service, and the service can be withdrawn at any time. I remember that people who had bought holiday homes near some obscure French airports were very upset when ryanair pulled-out. The main man's response was "I don't give a f***. Mind you I have no sympathy for such property speculation...

Re: Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

That really sucks, but I think we all knew it was going to have to come at the expense of another flight elsewhere.

Honestly, I have been really happy with easyJet's service to London from Basel - I use it about every six months and have had few problems.

My next flight is on Swiss to City airport, however. I will be quite interested to see the difference. As for flight costs - it was over 100 CHF cheaper a person than the easyJet fare on the date we booked, but usually it is more expensive.

Re: Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

I flew yesterday easy jet Basle/Luton as I do about every 3 or 4 weeks and never really have a problem but ZH will be easier for me. In my experience EJ is far better than Ryanair

I did fly Swiss from City airport once, because it's a small runway they use smaller planes, my flight was full and it was windy which meant there was not enough fuel. At boarding they asked for 3 volunteers to catch the next flight, I was not in a hurry and so stuck my hand up - I was given about 400 CHf compensation (more than the cost of the flight) and a meal ticket (you wouldn't get that on EJ). The return flight was canceled due to bad weather and they bumped me on a BA flight to Heathrow which was really annoying.

Re: Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

Its a shame they've taken the late night Luton to Basel flight off, this is the flight most of my visitors use but they'll now fly to Zurich anyway, just hope they don't change the Liverpool flight or at least add a flight to Zurich from Liverpool.

I thought that maybe easyjet had added the Zurich flight to establish it before Euro 2008?

To be fair I was more ranting about the rubbish connections to London from Stansted than EJ's service itself - which was fine. I think my point was unless you are going to visit somewhere close to Stansted or Luton, or you get a really low fare, the savings will not be so much if you add the cost of getting to or from the airport.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

Been here 6 years, used to use the Zurich service when I was in St Gallen and when I moved to Aaarau they started in Basel. As long as they offer one or the other, its no real problem for me. Have used Liverpool and Stanstead and have had good service almost every time. i hardly ever check the competitions prices as I can always book well in advance.

Remember once going back for my best mates stag do, the flight to Luton was cancelled at the last minute. They held the gatwick flight that they also used to do so all those that had to get back to the UK that night could get on. The others got a free hotel room.

Re: Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

Zurich is great for me as I'm only 10mins away by bus.It also saves about 65chf to Basel on the train. What I would really like is a flight to B'ham!
The prices on Swiss are 600chf + which is crazy.A business ticket can be over a 1000chf which considering the plane is a complete waste.
I found a flight to Brum via Hamburg which was cheaper but about 5 hours
duration!!

Re: Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

I'm a bit concerned about the North West-Geneva connections. Flybe has ditched the BA Connect Manchester-Geneva flight. No big deal during the skying season but from april to december, there is only direct flights from Liverpool with Easyjet and they are quite dear unless you book quickly.

Shld be called 'v. inconvenient & not-so Easijet'! Being a northerner, I used to frequent Easijets Basel-L'pool flight but got really fed up with their shoddy, work-shy, blase attitude, not to mention the long delays . Its happy days since I switched to Swiss in Jan with their new Basel-Manc flight. Ok, its only 3x/week but its as cheap as chips.

I thought the Swiss Basel to Manchester flight was only once a week on Mondays? it is cheap just not very frequent.

Re: Easyjet flight to Zurich means loss of flight to Basel

I've flown a fair bit with Easyjet and on average it's quite decent, delays do occur regularly but they are rarely more than 30 min. In fact I've quite lucky considering, the only serious issue I had was last year when my BA flight had to be diverted to Lyon because of fog in Geneva...

I've never had more than a short delay from Basel to Liverpool. I had a canceled flight from Geneva to Liverpool bit of a bummer because i had tickets for the Kop at Anfield for my hubbies surprise birthday pressie.

Swiss.com fly Basel to Manchester direct on Mondays only, if you check special offers you may be able to find better deals from Zurich to Manchester, for example I have just looked at a single flight from Birmingham to Zurich in the special offers and it was 70CHF one way which I thought was a bargain
