Re: my ne bike was stolen

Report it to the police.
It may not have been one of those families.
Someone may have let someone else in "accidentally"
We have had strangers in the basement "looking around" in our old flat, and everything was supposed to be locked.

Very sorry to hear about your loss

Re: my ne bike was stolen

Well, it's worth a trip to the police station if only to add to the crime stats for the area and to get a reference number for your insurance. Put a sign up in your building telling the other residents your bike is gone. Sorry for your loss

Re: my ne bike was stolen

I think the first thing you need to do is ask if anybody's moved it.

Also I believe that a lot of blocks of flats have a designated bike room so it could be that some "kind" neighbour has decided to move it the the correct place for you.

When that draws a blank then yes, go to the police.

10pixels has no particular reputation at present
Re: My new bike was stolen

If you have the serial number of your bike, it might be worthwhile going to your local bike shop(s) and see if someone sold it to them for a couple packets of cigarettes.

Just an off-chance....you never know.

first of all, so very sorry for that loss !
-
But, as the chance is 98 to 2 that it simply WAS stolen, yes, a police report is necessary and try to place it with the household insurance if you have some. But for later, try to get a cheap but good one over www.ricardo.ch
-
I for many years, up from my 15th birthday, had a bike I really loved. It however was stolen when I was some 35 years old. I about two years ago purchased, for less than 80 francs, quite a similar one, which now is in daily use again. And I have another one, stationed downtown which is of the make, the most disgusting bicycle mechanic in quarter had as his trademark, but I really love that thing as well, in spite of its purchase-value having been clearly below 100 CHF
-
I even had a similar bike been stolen, so that now, I have three bikes, with a purchase value of below 100 CHF each, but the locks having been worth more than 50 CHF each. Strange, true. At the other hand, really new and fashionable bikes have a high risk to get stolen, unless being stored in the gold cellars of the UBS ..
