Most Germans I meet are not bad, they are very nice people who sometimes let themselves down by belittleling (sp?) Swiss traditions and ways of speaking while having chosen this country as their home. Today's generation has it up to the back teeth with this constant blame and the more a country is unjustly made to feel bad for, well, being that country, the more right-wing minority proof are given fodder to feed uneducated, disadvantaged youths looking for someone to blame.

It's not just Germans, not long ago the Canadian Paras were discovered to be using similar 'training' measures.

Um..yeah, this is not a German thing.

The average age of someone in the army is like 22...mostly male. 22 year old males in combat training shooting machine guns? Yeah, you're going to hear comments like that. Well, actually you won't because 99.9 % of them will never be heard because no one was videotaping. I'm sure it happens with every single country.

"Why are Germans still bad" is a terrible title for this thread. One German kid in the army saying something stupid off of Grand Theft Auto doesn't mean anything.

This story of the German military trainer was covered on the BBC Radio news this morning.

This is not particularly a 'German' problem. Like it or not, the job of these men is to go out and kill other men. So it is and always has been. Now, in these politically correct times we have a strong demand for soldiers and new constraints put on army instructors. How should they motivate the recruits in this new situation?

"Imagine you see some people of no particular race or culture who have done some naughty things....Act". A slap on the wrist may result, with luck.

I agree. Army recruits are essentially trained to do jobs that most people couldn't even contemplate and they have to be motivated. We might not like the methods but when you are asking people to pick up a weapon and kill another person on your behalf then I think that you need to give them a little bit of latitude in how they accomplish this. As long as they act professionally when dealing with civilians that is.

Well, it should not work that way.

You can't tell an African soldier to imagine his enemy as European to fire and kill !!

Where is harmony and peace then. Unless we disband all the army, world will still continue as hell !!

Especially US, Britain and other major powers should disband their army and pave way for the rest.

I think you probably have a lot to learn about human nature.

Am ex-mob myself & this is pretty mild to what some Marine Gunnery Instructors used to do & say .... blown out of all proportion.... not condoning it, but feel there are plenty of other things going on in the world that people should be worrying about .... Prince William & Kate Middleton breaking up not being one either ....

Eh. I really doubt any of these guys even know any African Americans. They have probably never been to the US or New York. The guy was probably just playing up some weird gang/video game fantasy. The whole "insulting your mother" part is kind of dorky and funny actually.

When I was younger I spent some time in Germany, and it seemed like young german guys had really weird ideas about black people in America in the first place. A lot of them get all their ideas from music, MTV, video games and gang movies.

Bear in mind that in the UK, we have just been complaining that 15 British sailors weren't 'tough' enough because they gave in too easily to psychohlogical pressure from Iranian interrogators.

Maybe military training in some countries is becoming too pc.
