I didn't think the Soviets were the problem, rather the German tax authorities.
No, that is a different alarm. It plays the Benny Hill theme.

The 'water' alarm is now going off in Baden. Apparently it means a dam has burst and we are all going to drown. Nice to know at least

They seem particularly fond of the current alarm (third variety tested today). It unfortunately is the most excruciating - a monotone blasted held for appox 5 seconds which impacts the ears. YES IT WORKS NOW TURN IT OFF. Jees if a rock concert here made such a decibel level there would be an outcry.

Isn't there one in your basement?! I was amazed when I found mine, looks like something out of the Blair Witch Project
Heard of accidents like the one more than 20 years ago at schweizerhalle, basel? I like the fact to have a analog, reliable warningsystem together with the new digital technologies which are great, but never bulletproof

Re: Tomorrow is Switzerland's Siren test day - do not get scared ;-)

Haha first time I heard this kind of siren was 1983 at four in the morning in the Bern countryside. I was rushing round in the nuddy trying to think what I should take with me. By the time I got clothes on and rushed out I was nearly bowled over by the men of the region rushing off to extinguish a fire at a local farm.

Very, very big adrenalin rush!

Re: Tomorrow is Switzerland's Siren test day - do not get scared ;-)

Was reading in the link posted above about why the sirens are now used...

"In 2008, residents in the small town of Adliswil near Zurich were alerted, again in the evening, to the fact that their water had become polluted and should be boiled before drinking. The water alarm for dams has never been used."

I don't remember hearing about this! Knowing my ability to not understand swiss german over the radio I am now worried that the many reasons the siren may be sounded would miss me completely!

Guess you know to worry when your the only one in the street

On the other hand horgen has been known to be pretty empty generally at midday

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering if I needed to gather the children up and head down to the basement.

It does get the heart pounding wondering if it is the real deal!

I wish we'd had this when I was younger, I thought the water tasted a bit funny at the time.

Switzerland has beautiful sirens. Very melodic.

And yes, the sirens on two legs are also beautiful.

I'm doomed. Didn't read about this yesterday and today I heard the sirens and dismissed them as some factory alarm test.

One day I'll be the only person left in the building, being fried to ashes.
