I think you could say the same of many people on a 60K annual salary mate. It's all always relative...
I'll be really happy if I can get 60K......that means I'll have a job.

I was thinking of starting a discussion about my salary being enough to live a good life in Switzerland, but now I think I shall let it go.

Re: YES its enough!!!

Thing is that people like me who are on only 800k a year can't even start a thread to show off as 800k is peanuts these days. I hope I can make 10 times that amount next year so I could show off.

That'd be a good idea, it is a bit too recent since your love post, you might get a cat scratch

To the OP - it is all relative, some people are genuinely lost and can't find their way in the forums, so one has to take that into consideration. Now, I can't find the post, but there was one person asking some silly questions for a peson on a 3 million salary now, that is the kind of post you just want to blow at!

Point is, if one started their career at say 40K a year and managed to go up to 80K a year. Thats a 100% rise and they can have twice as many goods and services compared to what they could at 40K p.a.

From such a person's perspective, 80K might be a lot of money and someone wandering about living on 100K might be annoying. BUT, someone who was born 100K a year as pocket money while growing up and getting a job for say a 500K a year, might not be so comfortable.

Its all relative to one's background. I am sure there are people in the world who even survive at Dollar a day.

Unless, we make another forum rule; only for low earners.

Bleh, how boring that would be!

I like seeing how the other half lives... if I want to see how low earners live, I only need to look at myself and around my neighborhood.

Re: YES its enough!!!

we survived, believe it or not on earnings of $2.50 a day when my ex and i were just starting out about 10 yrs ago. we were living near family so i always knew we'd have a place to eat if needed but we were in paradise and paying only 20 a month for rent. we bought a quarter stick of butter from the pulperia near by each day. we bought some oil. we had chickens all over, papayas all over, etc. we bought three cigarettes a day. hahaha. and it was a pretty good life- even without meeting all our needs (it didn't matter we were 20!) anyway, after living like this (and seeing friends and some family who still do!) i'm sure i'll be fine on a measley 60,000 frcs. but here in c.h- you need more than just a roof (no walls needed in costa rica!!!) and the basics.

as was said- what you need to be comfortable, it's all relative. there was a post recently about someone who "needed" a flat screen tv. hahahaha- what we need to live comfortable is all relative!

most of that 10% must be lurking around this forum wondering if that's enough, then

Amazing how you can do without the essentials of life, so long as you have the luxuries.

agreed.

I don't understand why some of you think that people asking salary question is to flash /show off than really want to know the tie to life style, expenses. I would think this would be the very minority if it is the case.

I thought what annoyed people is that newbies sometimes do not use the search function. I only read once a thread that looked to me as a troll post, the 3M salary thread...but I guess most people found it to be total ballony.

The average person in Switzerland gets about 60k a year and that includes people with families to support.

So you people, who make those useless repetitive topics asking if you can survive on some salary most of us cant even dream about, please, do some f****** research! Yes Switzerland is expensive but your salary is more than enough. For a single person 200k (or 120k or whatever) is more than enough!! There is a search button. Use it! Will save you getting some red blobs for your stupid, pointless, repetitive questions
I am sorry, but I do not get the point of your venting. This is an open forum and people are free to ask whatever they choose to.

If you do not wish to answer you do not have to. Nor do you have to read the thread. And there are enough people who are kind enough and will reply to a question even if there already are 10 threads existing about it.

And on quite a few threads, I really do not like the attitude of a few of these EF regulars (forum veteran or whatever they are called) when replying to posts.
- First off they are hostile and trade too many underhanded insults to the person posting the question.
- Secondly, the regular's digress from the topic and start passing their own words of wisdom and (not so funny) humor. This is okay upto a certain limits, but certain regular on here actually take over the thread with this unnecessary banter.

I could go on, but I think I've put in my key points of what I wanted to say.

Cheers,
Kayo

Yeah, in Africa, most people do. When I was in Ghana most people there were on less than a dollar a day even.

And they must have seemed more cheerful and positive then some of the bankers who did not manage to get a bonus last year and some who have had enough hearing about other people's salaries!

Ah capitalism. How much we loathe it!

Re: YES its enough!!!

can we set up a thread " friss oder stirb" aka "take it or leave it"??
yes, the complaints corner is for "get it off your chest" but why on earth do such price/cost discussions never end?

thats the price for xyz, take it...or leave it. you cant change it! i repeat: "YOU CAN'T CHANGE IT!"

it doesnt matter how it was/is in OZ, USA, UK, TAKKA TUKKA land or (insert your country here)land...its SWITZERLAND!

Re: YES [your salary] is enough!!!

It amazes me how many forum members get so upset over salary questions, seen similar on other country equivalents to EF, with similar smart arse remarks, they appear to be universal!!

It's all relative people!!!!

We all have a different appreciation of what financial value means.

Since moving here I have found this forum very helpful (search function ) for my needs particularly around business and thank you to those that have helped me in the past.

It's great to see such positive replies, but such a shame to see less than helpful comments, surely in most of the Op's minds it's an innocent question around their income levels?!
They need help and they've come here to get it, perhaps a more objective attitude is required by some replying, failing that move on and leave the positive replies to fill the gaps.

Congratulations! You have now been designated the person who answers all threads about salaries, benefits packages, and 'lifestyle affordability'. Thanks for volunteering! It should only take a very small amount of your time.

There we have it, another fine example of a "smart arse" remark!

If I have the information I will be more than happy to help anyone with any questions to any or all of the above!!
Perhaps I should change my Log in name to HR!!
