Man, I saw a load of it all walked through and smeared everywhere by the bikes outside platform 3 at HB this morning. Lucky for me I'm British and so instinctively look down for that, even though (normally, anyway) there's none in Switzerland. Obviously some the of locals weren't so aware.

Never seen it before here, I was pretty appalled. I mean, it must take some gall to let your dog do that outside the main station in Zurich. Makes me think it was intentional. Obviously it had all been cleared up by the afternoon. That never happens back home.

Also saw some kid who kept spitting. Hadn't seen that before either, so I pulled him up on it and admonished him for his unswisslike behaviour. I mean, it made me realise how much I appreciate not dodgeing dog$h!t and spit when I walk around.

Thinking about it, maybe that was a bit of an unswiss thing of me to do. No wonder he looked so shocked.

See, I've even started thinking like a Swiss. Aarrghhh! It's addictive, like this forum? Why?

I'll bet the train to France is that way, it will just be the French letting their pooches get in practice for being back home.

Harsh - Basel & CH cities are pretty clean compared to some countries - relative to places like London, Rome or Barcelona you could eat your meal off the pavement... well you know what I mean.

Spitting in CH is quite common though... Along with graffiti (love it or loathe it).

LOL - next time you're waiting for a (late) train in the UK, you'll be looking at your watch and tutting out loud if you're not careful.

I remember landing in Manchester and getting the lift to the rental cars about 9 yrs ago. I was depressed by the pile of rubbish in the four corners of the lift...

Fair enough. I guess the general cleanliness makes the occasional deposit more memorable.

It's usually full Robidog bags left around that bug me most. It's like the dog owner knows their doggy's gifts are a little unsociable, but once they've bagged it up they can't be arsed following up and disposing of it properly.

(I have similar opinions about those that know they should wash their hands in toilets, but really don't want to get their hands wet for more than a second.)

It could be human turds if there are down-and-outs hanging around the area. If a whole turd was visible then that wasn't a great dane - it was a human.

I think the question was more how you found out how to detect the species behind a turd. Olfactory tests?

Taste test. Surely?

Size. If it's Great Dane size then bear in mind that you haven't seen a Great Dane outside Zürich station for several years now or most likely never.

I hope it is olfactory.. perhaps with the "nasal ranger" system?

I have seen an Irish wolf hound in the city before and I would expect it to make rather large ones as well...
