To me Rap is the crap one, often full of insults and bad words and nonsense,...
...not necessarily all rap music. The mainstream rap music definitely falls under your category.

is there an EF group on last.fm?
Would you believe there actually is!
The top artists of the week show a bit of a schizophrenic pattern though...

So does anyone of meaning in the rest of the world.

For as lumberjacks, we have CBC Radio 3.

Real music fans know that Kid A is a much better album than Ok Computer.
The Bends - thats the ultimate Radiohead album of all time.

Why is it, that when a band goes mainstream and get lots of airplay, people start turning up their noses at it, and labelling them sell-outs? Its not as if their music has suddenly gone bad overnight.

Sometimes it is, though. Look at Metallica... they were brilliant until, presumably, the security of a solid, undiscriminating fan base gave them the freedom to start releasing County and Western music instead of what they were good at.

They were dreadful for nearly twenty years, because they could afford to be dreadful.

Radiohead, on the other hand, were always crap.

People who are mad about pop music now are forgetting how terrible it was in the late 90s and early aughts. If anything, it's gotten much better.
Not to mention the really awful early 70's. If you have Lady Gaga's 'Alejendro' stuck in your head, listen to this little gem from 1974. It's guaranteed to stick in your head and make you wish 'Alejendro' would come back.

Ugh.... I just experienced flashback and felt a pang of homesickness. Mum loved this song and she used to play it in the car all the time, whilst wee-me tried to sing along to those complicated lyrics.

Off to HTFU and call her.

Re: Don't call my name, don't call my name Alejandro (or the modern music rant)

I reckon there's a lot of good new music around, though it's not played much anywhere. There's a limited selection in clubs, pretty much just top 40, generic commercial house, american ganster rap or golden oldies.

In fact, this is what prompted me to start DJing again when I came here, and that's slowly turning out all right.

Well... I finally went and looked for this Alejandro song you're all on about.

Is that supposed to be an earworm? I have never heard a more forgettable tune in my life (or if I have, I've forgotten it).

At least Madonna sang catchy tunes... this is just... well, nothing, really.

If you want a proper earworm, look for the Llama Song...

You poor soul. Did your mum feel glad that she had you after listening to this song, or would she rather be sipping champagne on a yacht
Or dancing like Harlow in Monte Carlo..........MAn for such a crappy song, it sure sticks in your head after all those years

I take your Alejendro and your Seasons in the Sun and trump them with "Ewigi Liebi". Things do not go lower than that. And yes, that includes anything by Black Lace.
