to be honest when comes to how lively a town is depends to a large extent of what you want to do in the evening and what your interests are. If you want nightclubs where you are dancing the night away, then you will have more choice in Zurich. However, if you want to go out for a meal or go to a bar there is very large choice of places to go. Also as people have noted on this thread there are loads of different activities going on through out the year.

If you compared a town/city in the UK of a similar size to Basel I think you would find there is a lot more going on in Basel than the town in the uk.

I am curious LeJoker about Lörrach, is there more going on there in the evening than in Basel ? I am bit suprised as it is much smaller than Basel in terms of population.
