Bicycle repair shop in central Zurich, preferably Seefeld?

Hi guys I'm new to the forum and wondered if you can help me to locate a reasonably priced bicycle repair shop in central Zurich, preferably Seefeld area or that side of the lake. I have a problem with my back brake and need to get it looked at. Any help or links would be much appreciated.

Re: Bicycle repair shop in central Zurich, preferably Seefeld?

Check out Velo Elsener, http://www.velo-elsener.ch/ Seefeldstrasse 24. Probably expensive but I believe good quality and good work. You should call for an appointment.

You could also take it to Athleticum http://www.athleticum.ch/index.php?id=260, or Migro Sports on Lowenstrasse, both may be a little cheaper.

Good luck!

Re: Bicycle repair shop in central Zurich, preferably Seefeld?

Would anyone have any update on this? Am looking for affordable bike shop to take my 2 bikes for some basic maintenance and repair as am too busy (lazy) and don't have the tools to do it myself. Went one in Seefeldstrasse (not sure if the same place than mentioned on previous post) but their prices were just mad, I mean seriously mad.

Alternatively can of course put an ad to jobs offered section.

Re: Bicycle repair shop in central Zurich, preferably Seefeld?

Thanks, will have to check these places. From the first look t seems that the
prices might be far from reasonable in these places as well.
EG full service in backyard up to +400chf wonder what is included with that. Sinking the bike in to champagne and taking it to brothel.

My second bike is not even worth 150chf and these guys are asking more for some maintenance that takes them max 15-minutes to complete.

You can go to the big DIY stores such as coop bau und hobby or Migros do it and garden. Don't know what there prices are like. Otherwise see if any of your neighbours are cyclists and offer them a few beers/bottle of wine to have a look at it.

Veloplus is another option, they are just at the back of Zurich HB.

If it involves people in any way in Zurich, you will pay through the nose for it. Spending the money on a bike maintenance course is better. Or best option: use Youtube and spend the money on tools, learning how to service and replace/repair the individual bike components in turn.

Re: Bicycle repair shop in central Zurich, preferably Seefeld?

I agree. I invested in a bike stand and bike tools and do all the maintenance myself. I learn more about my bike, it's cheaper and no appointments.

I think the only difficult tasks to do on bikes is any press fit bearing work or wheel trueing. Anything else is pretty easy.

Re: Bicycle repair shop in central Zurich, preferably Seefeld?

I actually do know how to fix bikes (basic things i mean) and was doing it everything myself up till maybe 8 years ago.

Just rather spend my time with other things and would be happy to pay qualified bike mechanic 50chf/hour. Just not +150chf/30minutes as
its completely absurd.

The typical prices around Zurich are indeed insane, I never found an alternative to doing it myself due to the crazy hourly rates or CHF200 for a "tune up" type of service.

A qualified bike mechanic charges way more then 50 sfr/hour, i paid 80 sfr/hour
at metropolitan bikes at sonneggstrasse. I highly recommend him, he does not care,if you bought the parts somewhere else.

Yeah and you can wait four to six weeks to get your bike back!

"Qualified" bike "mechanic"?

Its a greasy guy with a spanner not a rocket scientist!

You also do a diservice to people who have studied four years to be a mechanic.

And the term qualified makes no sense too. Is there a certificate, diploma or degree in bikes?

The man from metropolitan bikes owns the shop, it is a one person company.
He is not greasy at all.

You might check out the Velowerkstatt, a work integration program run by the city:

https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/sd/de/i...ngszeiten.html

https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/content...tsgebiete.html

Get your old bike fixed, do a bit of good at the same time.

These people have to eat and make a living also..that includes paying the rent for their premises, inventory, AHV/IV, etc. So out of the 150chf, probably only 50chf is actually paid as a wage.

Switzerland is an expensive country. If you are paid well in your job compared to where you'v come from, accept that other jobs require the proportional remuneration as well.

Looks interesting, maybe also for possibly getting a new bike at some point.

Understand your point but Switzerland being expensive country is also used as an excuse to ripoff pricing a lot.
Then again, as long as there are people who are willing to pay..

Agreed, and what lunatic thinks a bike guy should be getting CHF500 a day?

There are people out there with a degree (that isnt a joke) and they are not getting 500, and some are even out of work.
