Sell your cars. Public transportation here is the best in the world! Family of 4 here, no car x 3 years, however we do use mobility cars occasionally, which is a car sharing service. Very easy to use, and the cars are always nearby.
Mobility might fit your lifestyle choices but it won't fit everyones.

The question was fuel price related AND not a personal/public transport arguement starter.

To the OP

No idea - I pull up - fill up - pay - drive away. I don't really pay attention to the price.

When I lived in the city I had no car; public transport is good & a big issue is parking the damn car.
Now I live in the country a car is de riguer

95 petrol is around 1.66 to 1.72.
there are discussions about adding a penalty tax to diesel because it is now not considered so "green" as it used be.

Ruedi Russel garages generally offer the lowest prices in your area. I paid 1:61 last weekend. BTW. You won't get to meet Ruedi.

Re: Current Swiss Fuel Prices

Hello,
be aware there is no unified fuel, these categories might have variations from provider to provider, for example in amounts of sulphur and pureness of compounds. It does not matter in few thousand kms, but in few years, costs for maintaining engine will be quite different. So I always avoid the cheapest lads around, because I own my car, it's not provided by employer. I am not talking about more expensive variations like Shell V power, just sayin cheapest diesel might not be the best solution in long run.
And for ownership - it depends what You do. For mountaineering, rock climbing etc. public transport sucks, even the Swiss one. It is not money-effective copared to general abonement, but it is a luxury I am willing to pay anytime. So stop these neverending discussions about how good swiss public transport is. It's just that if every other system is same or worse does not make it good enough for everybody.

Re: Current Swiss Fuel Prices

I see that unleaded fuel prices are a bit lower than in Ireland and the diesel is the same.

Re: Current Swiss Fuel Prices

If you go to this page, you can print out coupons that give you CHF 0.05/litre on gas and diesel at Coop Pronto stations (quite common). Use the FR version since we are talking about Vaud.

Coop Pronto - Gas/Petrol CHF 0.05 coupon

Other stations often have 3 or 5 centimes per litre off the posted price.

Re: Current Swiss Fuel Prices

The fuel prices in CH are considerably lower than those in Italy. How do they compare to those in the UK?

Re: Current Swiss Fuel Prices

Comparing to Ireland, you will save 10c on unleaded and nothing on Diesel. I don't know about the UK though.

Re: Current Swiss Fuel Prices

Safe to say that if you look around you can find prices a little lower than 1.70 for Unleaded 95, (1.67 lately I've seen) and add about 0.08-0.10CHF/lt for Diesel/Unleaded 98.

But that can vary greatly, depending on the area and the brand. Generally speaking, highways are much more expensive, and densely populated areas (like Oerlikon in ZH) tend to have a lot of gas stations -> a lot of competition -> better prices. Try to find NASA petrol stations, they usually are the cheapest ones around.

One is on Hofwiesenstrasse (Maps link) and the other is near Enge on Bederstrasse 85. (Maps street view link). The street view shows a Shell, but the picture is from 2009 and now it's a NASA for sure - been using it a lot when I was living in Leimbach and was coming downtown by car.

Also very cheap gas can be found near ETH Zentrum, at the Scall on Sonnegstrasse (Maps link). It's one of the cheapest I've seen in ZH, and is very central

Unleaded- how much?

It seems Neuchâtel responded quickly to last week's events- with several garages lowering unleaded petrol to 1.28 a litre (some rural garages still at 1.39- and anything in between in the Canton). Will be filling up at our local today, and will report back on price. Edit- our 3 local garages are selling at 1.33).

So, how much is unleaded at your local garage today?

Re: Unleaded- how much?

Lowest I found in our parts is 1.42.

Thinking going to Saignelegier this weekend to see the huskie competition, might grab the opportunity to fill the tank on the way!
