| | | | Beware Car Thieves Rapperswil Jona Area
Just a warning that there are car thieves operating in the Rapperswil Jona area.
Just got back to my house to find someone tried to steal my car - everything inside glove compartment inc vehicle documents etc spread all over the place, fuse box cover off, steering wheel cover half off. I guess someone must have come along (we're right on a wanderweg) and disturbed the would be thief but it looks like a close call.
Funny thing is they could have had the (portable) sat nav and the cd player was untouched.

Just as an aside to that, a couple I know in the UK had their car broken into but nothing was taken.
The police said that the fact that they had a "sucker" mark on the windscreen might have prompted the thieves to break in thinking there was a sat nav stowed in the glove box.
The police's advice was that while it's a good idea to take your sat nav out of the car when you get home, make sure you wipe any "sucker" marks away or you might have a visit from an opportunistic burglar anyway. The ensuing hassle isn't worth it.
We don't have sat nav; much prefer the fights over the map reading |

Sorry to hear it Bud. Don't want to alarm you, but the typical behaviour is for them to return and try again, usually within a few hours. You might want to stay in tonight |

Maybe the start of the annual thieving run down the lake, every year just as the schools go back and evenings get darker we (thankfully not me) but my others in my block have been targrted. The locals think its the Yuogs a collective non swiss undesirables.
Our landlord says that they run from Zuirch to Rapperswil.

Tip: never store your real address in the "HOME" setting. Makes it easier for thieves to quickly find your empty residence and rob you there as well. For an article on the subject: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...e_id=1770&ct=5 |

Variation on the window sucker mark/sat nav crime that I heard of is...
Find car in say supermarket/cinema/restaurant car park. Steal TOM TOM, turn on, set navigate to HOME. Slash tyres of parked car. Drive "HOME", break in an steal at hearts content in knowledge owners are otherwise occupied.

Daniel | | | | | On a similar note a mate of mine sent me this as a warning about a gang operating at Lakeside shopping centre near London. As he was leaving the car park 2 young girls came along and started washing his windscreen. They were really pretty east european girls showing a lot of cleavage. he gave them a couple of quid and they asked him if he could give them a lift home just a short distance which he did (he's a sucker for a pretty girl or 2). They both sat in the back and almost immediately strarted kissing each other and getting "warmed up'. He was pretty astonished and was enjoying the show through his rear view mirror.
He dropped them off and got a kiss off both of them, sorry that the show was over but found afterwards that they had nicked his wallet!
Just a word of warning to you all, this happened to him 3 times last week but they don't appear to be there anymore.

Tank up your (non-Spanish registered) car, then find that you are passed by a car full of Spaniards, waving at you to stop, because of a flat tyre.
They'll be very friendly and help you put the spare on. After they've gone, you'll find that wallets and passports are missing.

BTT | | | | | I think perhaps you have been in Switzerland a little too long, I'm going out on a limb and saying this was meant as a joke.
