Hi, perhaps a bit late, but here goes... I make & bake traditional South African stuff - boerewors, biltong, beskuit, chilli bites, etc - and... don't know how to insert pics of it see www.wors.ch for it.

Hi Reon, nice to know you`re still around and still plying your Boerewors! What sort of price are you asking for B/W and how does one get hold of it? (posting/delivery/etc)

As a matter of interest here - The Swiss cut their meat in such strange shapes ........ and call it strange names. Seems that Rump steak is called here Entrecote (?) and they call Porterhouse steak a "falschfillet" ? Only the fillet is called fillet! What then is "Huft" steak?...... seems to me to be a sort of stewing steak?

To me a rump steak must have a good piece of fat down one side - something impossible to find here. Same with mutton chops - they have no fat and no marrow (the marrow is pulled out and called inedible) and have meat only on one side of the (tiny T) bone.

Re: What do you make? Show us your stuff...

Hi,

I had the same problems with the meat here - took me some time to figure out the names/cuts etc (in French that is) and now you ask me in German:-)! What they call rump here is basically what we would call Topside (and make mince of), entrecote is sirloin, and Huft I believe is "Rump". Not sure about the falschfillet, probably Faux fillet in French, and if so then yes, a sirloin steak.

To solve the problem I returned to SA where I qualified as a good old fashioned Block-man, and now buy cows, lambs and pigs from neighbouring farms, cut proper rump steaks (avec graisse hehe), T-Bones (complete and ranging between 300 - 800gr each as ordered), lamb chops, ribs, shanks and stewing meat, and pork chops, leg etc with the skin on (I mean who on earth does a pork roast without crackling?).

Another very important point is that I hang the beef carcasses for two to three weeks before cutting it up, and maturing the steaks to 21 days before selling it.

The tricky bit is that I do not yet have my own butchery (I rent time in a farm butchery in St. Livre), and do not keep any stock. Customers let me have their wishlists (reon@wors.ch), and whenever there is enough to justify killing an animal, I let them know when I am going to slaughter again (about once a fortnight), and orders are confirmed.

Boerewors goes for CHF30.00 p/kg and every week I make Kameelhout, Farmstyle, Voortrekker, Spicey lamb, and my own special mix called Cayde se boerewors.

In two weeks time I will also start making roast chicken flavored wors, gold medal beef sausage and pork bangers flavored with a hint of ginger and lemon.

After imp0rting and installing an electric biltong cutter, the biltong room here on the farm is fully operational and there is a regular supply of biltong, chilli bites and dry wors.

And last but not least - I make good old fashioned sausage rolls, chicken, pepper steak and curry mutton pies:-)

A very long winded way to say that it is no longer impossible to find recognizable meat here:-)

Thank you Reon.
I`ve sent your information to my family here to see if we can get together a decent sized order ...... my little hoarded supply of Boerewors spice is getting to its sad end (used to flavour up Bratwurst/Bauenbratwurst)

A bag with a tutu ! A nice lined bag with enough space for ballet clothes and shoes, or anything else you may want to use it for.

I made this from scratch for my daughter. Soon lots of her ballet friends wanted one so I started making them plus other things - ReeRaa Handmade was born :-)

Here's a pastel drawing of the Kleiner and Grosser Mythen, seen from Stoos on a cloudy autumn day.

Re: What do you make? Show us your stuff...

I love making crafty things around the house especially around the festive season with things from the garden or inexpensive material lying around from previous parties. Usually I find inspiration on Pinterest or try out projects I love on youtube. Made some wreaths over this Christmas. Tried my hand at some baby shower decorations and princess castle diaper cakes too.

Hi

It is great to see everyones makes, there are some really lovely things posted.

I make silver jewellery and thought I would take the opportunity to share some pictures of some of the things I have made recently.

It would be nice to be in touch with others interested in making jewellery too.

Best wishes
