Well, I've been here for a number of months now, and I think this weekend I will finally cave and go see a movie. It's been a long time since I've had that theater experience and I think there's some good movies out right now.

What is your favorite theater in the Basel area and why?
If it's far away, why is it worth driving to?
Which theaters are the newest and most modern?
Which ones have stadium seating?
Which ones have movies in the original language (i.e. English)?
And most importantly, how do you find the listings and show times?

- I love going to the deluxe section of the cinema. Free M&M's, a glass of prosecco and a toasted sandwich.
- It's just down Steinervorstadt at Barfüsserplatz.
- It shows movies in English language but I think mostly in the evenings. I think most cinemas show German language in the daytime for the kids although I could be wrong.

Films are always shown both dubbed in German and in the original language (with french/german subtitles) - it says which next to the showtime (Egf are the showings in the original).

There are basically two sets of cinemas; the kult.kino, which has several branches, for more indie or foreign-language films (other than English), whilst all the others - particularly the Pathé Küchlin, which is the one big multiplex - show the more mainsteam Hollywood-ey films.

Most of the cinemas are on the same street, Steinenvorstadt (hence sometimes nicknamed 'Kino-gass' or Cinema-alley), so if you're feeling spontaneous you can just wander down there and see what's on.
