Has everyone had their fun groaning at the newbie?

You should be ashamed of yourselves! Any gentleman would realise he had overstepped the mark and remove their groan(s).

Very well put. Gentleman, stand down, ladies moan away.

Walk in. Take a number. When your number comes up, ask for "A" Post.

DIE POST?

"When your number comes up"?

It all sounds a bit dangerous to me

It was delivered .

Of course, I did learn very quickly that I would RECEIVE no mail until our names were on the mailbox, even if all of the powers-that-be knew exactly where to find us (and would, in fact, address reminders to "Herr und Frau Joy at correct address). Yes, we've all been through it, but it still amuses me.
Almost wish they had a rule like that in the U.S. Although I am no longer a mailman, it's annoying when you have to find a specific address and the house that you are looking for does NOT have a visible number on the front door or mailbox. Posting at least the name (and I'm willing to bet you have to have the number, too) on the mailbox must be a BIG help for Swiss Post or other delivery services like DHL or FedEx.

Re: How to post a letter???

Until two months ago, virtually no-one in our village had house numbers.

And until she married me, my wife's name was not on the mailbox (and it only is now because she took my name! )

I have also received mail sent to the wrong town, the wrong canton, or simply addressed to "MY NAME, SWITZERLAND"

Tom

Visit near by '' Post office '' and hand it over to the counter and tell them to send it by Regular Post (not priority) and pay the amount they ask for.

It's actually free. The receiver has to pay (if you don't put a stamp on it, that is.

Re: How to post a letter???

By the way "Die Post" gave me a gift. Some pre stamped cards. Lovely, in a country where everything has a price tag on it.

Can I put those in the yellow boxes I see everywhere?
