If you're talking about learning High German and then being frustrated to no end because everyone speaks SG, I am with you. But I found that most people (at least professionally) generally are cool and switch to HG if asked nicely.
I meant just that. Its fine and really necessary to learn HG to have good knowledge on it but if you really want to feel good in the group then its literally a must to know SG. Moreover the people here always says that german is too difficult but indeed it is not. Its like any other language in the globe but just start learning with those words in the mind will lead only difficulty. I do not believe german is more difficult than japanese :-))) Whenever one starts talking in HG then the other just converse only in SG (not being so polite, IMHO) which is just want to show that they are native hahaha. My point is that learn good HG but at the same time learn SG and practice only SG which is really ideal.

Getting overexcited here and needing to edit after didn't make me smile, more roll my eyes..but the work recognition and warm EF words and reaction did make me smile. Pure TLC...

Awww! Love his accent (the frightening thing is I actually understood ~90% of it) but his wife can keep him. I'm sure she'll be finding squashed ants in his trouser roll-ups all next wash day.

We got ours awhile back, but the paper says not due until December? Over my cold, dead body will the Billag get their chuffs early...

Schwyz that is :-) Central Switzerland (Innerschwiiz) has a lot of lovely dialects that are underappreciated I think, but maybe that's just because it's where I'm from.

He is a real weather prophet by the way, but they're not taking themselves very seriously, it just started among friends a long time ago as an excuse to get together and drink. That doesn't mean they don't understand anything about nature and the weather, they just love to have a laugh.

at minute 1:40 he explains his "ant method" of predicting the weather, so the ad is actually no joke

Thank you Simon

Also, to answer the question of the thread, I will know I have been assimilated when I can tell which part of Switzerland the various dialects are from

And I am sure that she will make some herbal "health" tea from those squashed ants
