LeShop delivery paper bags

Hi, I do most of my grocery shopping using LeShop.ch. The items are
bagged using ordinary paper bags. With each delivery I accumulate
more paper bags. Has anybody tried asking the delivery guy to take
back the paper bags?

What do you do with the bags if they do not take it back? It seems like a
waste to recycle them like newspaper. They are perfectly reusable.

Re: LeShop delivery paper bags

Yes, I would take the delivery stickers off them and return them to the delivery person. They take them, but I bet they don't reuse them

Alternatively, find your local brockenhaus and donate them. They are always happy to take bags in good condition to be reused...

Don't forget to tie them to a bundle (i.e. usual recycling rules apply)

You know many bottle deposit places also have a container for the paper shopping bags?

Hardly any outside Zurich city do actually. In Horgen, the only way to get rid of paper and cardboard is the monthly collection. There is no paper bank and no Recyclinghof or similar that might accept the stuff.

Re: LeShop delivery paper bags

Agreed it is such a waste. Why not e-mail or phone LeShop to discuss this with them and ask them to address the issue- with mild 'threat' that it puts you off using the service. I've done this with a company that delivers fruit and veg to the area- and they have swapped their plastic bags to re-usable cardboard boxes. Most businesses are really happy to try. If this fails, I would do as said above and donate them to any local charity shop/Brockenhouse.

Edit - just seen the post re not re-using the bags. What a shame - i'd take this up with them. Surely they could recycle any soiled or damaged ones, but re-use those in perfect condition.

I reuse them for grocery shopping until they fall apart. Of course that approach won't work if you only use leshop.ch for your grocery shopping.

Recycling LeShop / Coopathome paper bags

I'm sure there was a thread about this once before, but I've done a couple of searches and couldn't find it...

Does anyone know where you can recycle the paper bags that the online supermarkets use for their home deliveries? They're similar to the ones that you can buy for a few rappen at the brick and mortar stores. Where I live at least they are not accepted in the normal Saturday paper collection.

I've never looked for anywhere else to recycle paper as the rest of our stuff always goes out with the regular collections, and we're starting to get quite a collection of these delivery bags!

Actually, not sure if that is valid for all of them, but you should be able to give all packaging material back when you receive the next delivery. Just bundle it up or put it all in one bag and hand it over next time..

The bags go in with the cardboard. I fill mine up with cardboard and dump the bag at the same time.

I'll check with our delivery guy next time, I didn't know you could do this. Although if they're not going to reuse them like an earlier poster said then it does seem a waste.

I've seen people in neighbouring building do this and they bags don't get picked up, so I'm guessing that's not allowed round our way. Shame, it would be very handy.

Maybe they leave the bags so they can use them again.

In my neighbourhood people keep the bags to they can use them again. It the bag is torn or ripped, I toss it in the bin with the carton.

That's the thing, with us they leave the bags but also the cardboard that's in them... I guess handing the bags back to the delivery driver is the best way to go, I'll give that a try. I'd just feel better if I knew they were definitely going to be recycled. We do very little supermarket shopping that's not online, otherwise we'd just reuse them.

Hehe, I am pretty sure that they do not collect anything in bags - cardboard like paper needs to be bundled up

Re: LeShop delivery paper bags

As we don't seem to have large cardboard boxes every month, tend to put all the small cardboard bits and pieces in an old paper bag and leave that outside.

It always get collected.

We also have a re-cycling centre that cardboard at any time for free which is useful after an Ikea trip!

The higher the taxes in your Geminde, the better the services.

Re: LeShop delivery paper bags

coop@home makes a point of taking back all the cardboard and paper bags that are used in delivery - they're the downside of online grocery ordering, but without it the food wouldn't make it intact.

We (I'm head of marketing) will also take Pet bottles if you use the Pet bag (just add one free of charge to your order...)

Re: LeShop delivery paper bags

According to the information pasted on the Stadt Zürich site: Paper shopping bags cannot be recycled as they're treated with a substance which is not biodegradable.

LeShop.ch accepts the bags back as long as you bundle them and put them in the cooling bags.

Re: LeShop delivery paper bags

In our local recycling center, near Nyon, we are advised not to put such bags into the paper bins, as the glue used tends to screw-up the recycling process, but rather chuck the bags into the cardboard bins.

At home, I fill the bags with all the little bits of cardboard - small packaging, etc. Then throw the bag and contents into the cardboard recycler.
