This being the first year I have lived here in Switzerland, I have to ask: Is this weather normal? There is no snow on the lower elevations, the ski areas have postponed their openings and yesterday I was outside in a tee shirt above Lake Thun. It also hasn't rained in the Berner Oberland in weeks. Either I was way off in thinking that it was cold here, or this is not usual.

Autumn seems to be a bit hit and miss - it can either be glorious or shite. A couple of years ago we had snow at the end of October

I'm loving the sunshine at the moment and trying to make the most of it. January seems to always be cold and wet/snowy and that goes on until at least February.

No .... calm before the storm.

Probably in for a long, cold, snowy winter.

Rain that should've fallen in autumn, will come as snow when it gets colder, in a couple or so weeks.

That's what I thought ..... and every year at that.

For me a winter is with snow. No snow, no fun.

I have a weather station in my house that tracks the temperatures. We have not had a single night below the freezing mark in December and only a couple all fall. Now that seems strange. My parent live in New Hampshire and they get below freezing almost every night now, save for a day or two with a passing weather front.

here it get below freezing almost every night or nearly atleast. +1000m everything has a nice snow cover on it. It is warmer than last year, but last year was app exceptionally cold.

Also keep in mind that many places in CH never get snow(or very little) and temps stay much higher (around the big lakes)

In Zurich the probability of at least 1cm snow cover on all three christmas holidays is only 26%. While it may be warmer than normal the lack of snow on lower elevations is the norm rather than an exception.
