| | | Perfume ( and/or after shave )
should Switzerland ban perfume?
ok.. so I shouldn't complain... but I will...
what is it about some people, in this case a guy, and the old eau de toilette ?
I was coming back from lunch and a guy got on and sat across the 4 set seat from me and I could barely breathe due to the stench of fragrance* coming off of this guy -- he must have bathed in whatever fragrance he had on.
* again I shouldn't complain --as bad as this was it wasn't as bad as some of the other stench's you get on public transport.

No ban on perfumes please! Better smelling than sweat even when someone overdosed on it.

Give him your cellphone.
Tell him its one of your ancestors, calling him from the grave, to tell him they can smell him from there.

Try a train on rush hour, with women and men bathed in cologne/perfume, added to the musk of people wearing winter jackets while the heating is at the maximum (about 28 degrees on good old falling to pieces S5).
That, my friend, is the true adventure of the nasal cavities! It's the perfect dare!

Stories like this are why I often stand in the entry landings of the cars on my beloved S4. At least I get a blast of fresh air at every stop before I get off.

I HATE, hate, hate the lastest fad! It's this little boys' cologne also worn by immature, flashy men...it's called "1 Million" by Paco Rabanne. Some of those kids take it to a whole other level....you end up smelling billions and trillions..

This is something I don't understand, people buying perfum for someone else. It is so personal, each perfum react differently on each person and will not smell the same.
It is like having my sister in law buying me underwear, bras... | | The following 2 users would like to thank Nil for this useful post: | |

For whatever reason she always buys perfect fit even though she is 3000 kms away. When I buy them, even if I try them in the store, it always ends up the wrong format/size
People who buy me perfume as a gift end up on the black list, though |

Interesting. I was chatting to a young girl just qualified as a nurse and she was telling me how perfume re-acts (something she had to study along with Swiss law ) Anyway, she said perfumes contain "sweat" from glands (human or animal), the body rejects this as foreign, until finally "accepting" it by being conditioned. The result is that we no longer are able to smell the pungency of it, and end up over-dosing.

I sat on a 9 hour flight back from Vancouver next to some woman who was marinated in Poison by Christian Dior. Every time she went to the loo she spritzed herself with another bottleful when she returned to her seat.
I gag every time I smell that stuff now.
If I get caught on a tram with someone reeking of perfume or aftershave I comfort myself that at least I can get off in a few stops.

This is one of the things I really noticed when I first arrived in Switzerland. My nose was on over-drive for all the perfume/cologne and cigarette smoke - I was quite surprised. I think I had gotten accustomed to working in a scent-free environment (at least as the policy) in the hospital, so it was quite a shock when I arrived.
Frankly I would rather smell perfume or cologne that sweat, but not at the expense of others...some people have pretty intense physiological reactions to perfumes and I would hate that my odour takes priority over their health.
