What are your plans for tonight?

Its that time of the year again where you have to go out and celebrate. Or would you rather stay at home?

What are your plans for this new years eve that falls very conveniently on a Saturday?

Im going to be working so deciding what to do was really easy. What about you?

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

We are having a few friends for dinner, so my husband is getting busy in the kitchen . Meanwhile, I'm running around like a headless chicken tidying up and hiding the pile of clothes that never got ironed. Oh, fun times.

Happy new year!

Going to our friends next door this year- no driving in wet snow and we can have a decent drink. Fondue Bourguignonne and my special frozen Absinthe Soufflé, his local best pinto noir and our best local champagne (Mauler Motiers- wonderful).

Ah I remember New years eve parties in Australia on the beach or fantastic house parties *sighs*
Those were the days
With 2 kids under 4 and a cold rainy night out there its a night to stay home.

Stay home menu for 31.12.2011

French Champagne
Home made pizza
Nougat torte and a sticky white to wash it down

Cant complain really

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

We're still in Krakow and we've been invited to a 70s theme party. I've found some cool flowers to wear in my hair and a retro mini dress. I'm excited and I think it will be great to see some colour in what people will be wearing instead of the usual demure black.

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

We usually go round to friends' houses for dinner, but this year OH has decided to work, so thought I'd spend NYE at home. A bit nervous, as silly as it sounds, I really like celebrating the NY in the company of others, so I'm a bit worried it'll get to 11pm and I'll be regretting my decision.

Gata, to be honest, I think it's great to work NYE, one of the best NYs I had was in my student days working in a cloakroom at a nightclub.
I had a bottle of Jameson's whisky, and had a great time socialising with the people that went out to party but ending up spending the evening chatting down next to the cloakroom! Then of course had an afterparty which went on for another day - Great times!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Since we just moved in to Switzerland, we don't know anyone around. We are planing to go to Zurich, listen to music and see the fireworks near the lake

I'll be cocooning at home with all the windows shut, blinds closed, curtains drawn - trying to keep two terrified mutts from barking each time the skies above explode. (Fortunately mutt number three is deaf as a post..)

The neighbors (who have already started shooting off their howitzer-like fireworks) will call the police if the dogs bark in response to their racket.

I'm praying for rain tonight.

---

Wising you all a happy New Year, and all the best in 2012.

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

Today is m-i-l birthday so we will be going to hers tonight when hubby gets off work. Traditionally we have salmon on toast (although she gets sliced ham for me since I don't care much for salmon ) with some wine, a champagne toast with the tischbomb going off at midnight.

I'm debating today whether to head out and get ingredients to make "Hoppin John" which I had when I lived in Savannah and was the first "culturally traditional" thing (aside from getting blasted drunk) I experienced associated with New Years.

Before this, my friends and I would either head to the (very large) home of the parents of one of our group, where we would have pizza and nibbles while getting ready for the night out. Then, out, we'd get drunk (later days I was designated driver) and have fun, returning home together. The next day was the biggie, getting together with all the other friends who'd gone away to see family for Christmas, we'd make a dinner with all of us gals pitching in.

I'm not prepared this year to go all out and do that, maybe next year... I could throw together some Hoppin John to bring to m-i-l tonight and introduce her to this Southern tradition.

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

Just made up our mind as the plans kept changing. Going in to Zürich for 9 having a nice meal and then taking it from there. The Limmat and fireworks or a nice old local bar in SchmeideWeidikon. Either way I'm looking forward to it.

Hope you all have a good un.

that's our plan, too, on our first swiss new year's eve.
only we'll be eating at home and then going somewhere to enjoy the fireworks, we are all so excited having heard how great they're supposed to be.

only problem seems to be this offputting weather: I've heard there are different locations from which you can see them better according to the weather conditions. apparently, if it's foggy the locals got up, rather than down on the lake. our neighbour recommended university or kirche fluntern.

we need some help in deciding where to head off to, since you can't really change last minute, can you?? we don't want to end up seeing the fireworks from the tram...

"guten rutsch" and happy twothousandandtwelve everyone, whatever you're doing!

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

Brother and girlfriend (his) visiting. We have a reservation in Zurich for 9ish. Then off to the lake to see the works, or if it rains a lot, probably stay in a bar.

Then hopefully not back to bed too late in order to catch some good skiing tomorrow...

Happy New Year all... 2012 WILL be a cracking year (somehow)

PS! whilst I love my brother, I sort of wish it was just the wife and me on the sofa on our own....(bad thoughts, I know..)

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

Being English, the 31st December, has never been important to me. In fact, until the UK went into the Common Market in 1970 (now known as the European Union), January 1st was a normal working day. So, this evening I will have dinner at home with my husband, a glass or three, perhaps watch TV and go to bed. Tomorrow it will be 2012, no big deal!

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

If it is not too rainy I will go to downtown tonight and watch the firework. Probably along the Lake towards Enge / Mythenquai

They will sing songs of Bob Dylan between 23.15 and 23.45 in St. Peter. May go there, as the place has a great accoustic

Dinner at home for a few of us (baked sea bass with lemon, garlic and thyme), followed by live music at a local bar with friends and, of course, champagne at midnight. Wherever you are and whatever you do, have fun and I wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year

Very quiet evening, just my husband and I, and our pup. Lots of nibbles, some port, maybe something bubbly. The pup will have a tranquilizer for fireworks.

Party in our house tonight: neighbours, sister-in-law are here. The ladies are taking now some biscuits & tea and gossiping. They didn't start preparing the dinner and I'm getting worried. I've done my part: cut & cleaned the sea urchins for starters.
