Hello People,

Although, Switzerland is a fantastic holiday destination and I love getting away in the mountains, me and my OH are craving some winter sun. Where do people here jet off to for some warmth in the winter months?

We went to Singapore last year and loved it. We are looking for some where different this year. Criteria is:

Warm/Sun
Beach or Pool resort
Not many or no children
Not phased by long haul
Budget up to 4 k CHF (or 3 k pounds as we paid last year)
Looking around February time

Any ideas? Help would be appreciated.

Tahiti- but Moorea is decidedly cheaper, and a lot more isolated, than the main island.
Sharm el shek (didnt really like this- a bit to phony/touristy for me, but it might just be others cup of thee)

I guess Rarotonga might be a little out of the way?

No idea whether it's realistic...but I keep meeting swiss people whose destination is the canary islands. Second on the list is Phuket (Thailand).

We went to Barcelona, that was much warmer than Zurich for Christmas, and a very cheap flight...but we are travelling with 3 kids

Thailand is our absolute favorite, and there is a direct overnight flight to Bangkok on Swiss - and they frequently have sales.

We also love Dahab - it's cheap, short flight (5 hours) and not as manic as Sharm. The village has the perfect amount of shops and restaurants, and the beach is really nice. Lots of water activities if you're keen.

If you don't care about the time in the plane, head to hawaii (big Island) or Australia

My m-i-l tends to stay within Switzerland but she'll go down to Ticino for some warm, usually in spring though.

My brother-in-law and his wife head further afield, not so much necessarily looking for warm I guess... They've been to Prague, make frequent trips to Italy (some family on their father's side there) and to Gibraltar.

As I'm too lazy to look it up and it is your suggestion, I am curious...

OP has stated a budget of 4000chf - wouldn't flight alone to these places pretty much swallow up that budget?

Of course, many Swiss stick around during winter as you can get plenty of sun on your face whilst skiing and tend to try to head off in autumn/spring instead.

If you are looking for ideas though, I'd second Thailand if you have never been before. Direct flights from Zurich pretty frequently

How about Morocco ? Marrakech is a 4 hr flight and it is a beautiful city and self drive works very well.. we were there last Feb and it was nice and warm
