| | | Wasps !!!
Hi.. We have a wasps nest outside one of the bathroom windows of our apartment. Who's responsible for getting shot of it ? Us ? The agency ? The people who own the building ?
Any ideas about wasp exterminators in Valais ?
Cheers

You are responible
Any Coop or Migros carries a anti bug line in yellow packaging- they have a spray 'gegen Wespen' that should do the trick. Lot cheaper than an exterminator!

I had nests outside both of my bathroom windows last month, and after being stung severely I decided to get even ... so I bought an aerosol "bomb" spray from Coop, opened the window and sprayed the nest directly. The force from the spray can exploded the nest into the stratosphere! Except for the initial stragglers looking for the nest later, there has been no sign of them since... Perhaps I will not be popular with this next comment - but man, it was one of the most satisfying things that I have done in ages !!!!! | | This user would like to thank Fiona for this useful post: | |

Ha. I shall try the two options above and see what occurs. Unfortunately the nest is between the window and the bit where the outside shutter is so there may be wasps all over the bathroom.
Also been told by the agency that as we're on the first floor and if it's hard to get to the Martigny fire brigade will do it for nothing.

Over the last couple of days have had half a dozen visits from these evil baskets.
Now we live on the top (4th) floor of our apartment block and a quick scan doesn't seem to show anything. Now I am allergic to the gestapo of the insect world so am not going to try to hard to discover the location of the nest but fear it must be close by.
I understand that I am responsible for paying to get rid of them, but who should I contact to do a search and the necessary killing once the nest is found? The letting agency or is there a local council department who deals with this?
Basel based.
Many (nervous) thanks in advance.
M.

M. | | | | | My neighbour had a wasp nest on her balcony (3rd floor) she rang the fire brigade, and they came, and got rid of the nest, personaly i would not try to get rid of the nest yourself especially since you are allergic (please do not take the risk).

Just as bees make honey, wasps make mustard, otherwise known as Waspard. The process is a little unconventional and often treacherous. Nevertheless, it's most worthwhile, especially on ham sandwiches or straight from the jar.

Contact the agency that handles your building, tell them you have wasps and you are allergic to them and they have to be removed.

Wasps come under "natural hazards" and they deal with them. It'll cost. We paid 100 Francs.

| | | Wasps Nest on my balcony
Hi All,
I'm desperately looking for some advice here. I discovered a wasps nest in one of my cartons in the balcony yesterday. I've called the Hauswart who said I need to buy some insect spray and just spray the nest. I'm terrified of being stung and my other half is allergic to wasp stings. (The hauswart isnt willing to do this and the Verwaltung wasnt very helpful either)
Would be grateful for any suggestions as to how I can get rid of the nest.
Many thanks,
Ebony

I'm not into murder but I draw the line at wasps' nests on my balcony.
I got well and truly stung last year when I wiped round the edge of the table on the balcony not realising there was a nest underneath. The wasps didn't like being disturbed and showed their anger quite clearly.
My solution:
Buy wasp spray from a Drogerie. (probably Migros has a similar one)
Wait until wasps are in nest. (early morning or late evening).
Keep husband out of the way if he is allergic to stings.
Follow instructions given on the spray.
Go away.
Come back and vacuum or sweep up bodies.
Get praise from husband.
Good luck.

Pretty much exactly as Longbyt says. I had the same problem about 2 years ago. I got the spray and one evening generously smothered their nest with it. Try to keep your body away and your arm stretched out as you spray. I had no problems with getting stung and the whole act was actually quite quick.
I think in extreme situations you can call the fire dept. to deal with it. But you will get a bill for that.

If it's a small nest then you can probably do it yourself but if it's a big one or you have an allergy to the stings then you might be better getting someone else to do it. If you don't want to do it yourself then your commune will tell you who to contact. Often it's the fire brigade but not always. Since last year my commune doesn't allow us to call the fire brigade anymore and we are now directed to a professional exterminator based in Vevey who does wasps, ants, hornets etc. The problem with that is how quick he comes depends on his workload and as Eire says, you'll be charged for the service |

| | | Wasp Nest
Hi all,
Anybody have any experience of getting a wasp nest removed?
Pay yourself?
Consult the landlord?
etc. etc.
Any english speaking pest control companies?
They are nesting in a hole above an external blind in the appartment block
Brgds,
D

Brgds,
D | | | | | i think you can call the Gemeinde or the Feuerwehr. They will bill you an amount for the work (around 150-200 chf) to get it removed.
I removed once a nest that was in my garden in a tree: i bought a special spray to be used during the night (all the wasps are inside the nest), and then remove and burn (safely) the nest.
