| | | Shall I confiscate my son's stash?
My son (14) bought a lot of fireworks last week and is still letting some off on a daily basis. Since it's not Aug. 1 or New Year's Eve, is this illegal? I'm considering putting all of his unused fireworks into our safe until next August.

Have you told him not to shoot them? If so, and he does anyway, then take them, soak them in water and throw them away*.
If it's simply a question of legality I have no idea. But the above technique works a charm, and next time you tell him to stop doing something he will think twice . *From a former young boy who used to spend all his money on fireworks and who still loves them. | | The following 5 users would like to thank Mud for this useful post: | |

I'd probably take 'em - it's all good fun on celebratory nights but a pain in the neck otherwise, plus he might hurt himself!

Why would you confiscate the poor lad's porn stash?... wait... oh... nvm...
For neighbour peaceful interaction and security reasons, I'd put away the fireworks till August...

After seeing his experiments, we have forbidden him from taking them apart and creating his own explosives but I'm afraid I'll have to hide the rest.
Thanks for your creative/honest/weird answers.

The problem is the noise. In Basel-Land, the Ruhetagsgesetz forbid explicitly fireworks on high holidays ( Karfreitag, Ostersonntag, Pfingstsonntag und Weihnachtstag). Check for your canton what the exact rules are, but it won't be more lenient than in BL, oder? (*insert ironic smiley here*)
But there is a general rule anyway: An Sonn- und allgemeinen Feiertagen sind untersagt:
a.Tätigkeiten und Veranstaltungen, die durch Lärm oder auf andere Weise die öffentliche Ruhe stören;
In other terms, anything that makes disturbing noises is forbidden anyway. The definition of disturbance depends on the days (workday, sunday, holiday, high holidays) but that's the same idea the whole year through.

My son is the same age but he is so harmless that even the lady at the checkout counter at Migros tells me what a "guute buäb" he was; I only hope that doesn't mean the worst is yet to come |

Seriously, those things are dangerous. Don't you remember the annual lecture from Blue Peter.

From this firework sales website it states you should ask at your Gemeinde if you need permission for dates other than 1st August and 31st December. http://www.feuerwerk-handel.ch/main....tellungen.html
There are age limits on buying fireworks, but I think he can buy smaller ones.
