| | | What's up with the ski season??
Well I put up with this crappy summer hoping that we've have a nice ski season - but now we are well into November and we still can't ski :-(
I checked the glacier at flims/laax which is usually good for some "pre-season" skiing, but they don't even have enough snow at 3200m!
Maybe it's global warming, but I'm not happy :-(
No seriously, just letting off some steam, let's hope we get some snow soon!

Apparently many sources (including the "wetterfrosch") say this coming winter will be one of the coldest since the early 1800's.....
Not that that guarantees snow, but nonetheless its at least a start, can't wait!

I feel your pain ... a rubbish summer followed by a rubbish winter (so far). Where was all that clear warm weather that we got in October in the summer, when we could really have used it?
Still, got my first skiing of the year in, and tried snowboarding for the first time, the other weekend ... In England, on a dry slope :-)

Just hit the slopes at Davos (yesterday). Both Jakobshorn and Parsenn only had a single run open, there was reaonable snow on it, and it was a good warm up to the season. I heard Flims didn't have enough snow on the weekend, but I might check it out on Monday.
ANy other ski reviews so far?

OMG i love Flims and Laax. I used to go their each year summer and winter time. I probably would say, Flims Waldhaus used to be my favorite place on this earth. But i am sure lots has changed in 35 years.... Smile
I am certain this is global warming. Hurricans are getting stronger, Alaska is loosing lots of its icebergs, earthquakes ETC..... And no snow. When i was still a young child, i remember winters here in CH filled with snow that we sometimes could not even leave our house... Well now we can be glad to receive a bit snow. I will be going to Big Bear California for the holidays, hahahahha, even if they don't have real snow there, there will be some fake snow at least.....

Hi Natalie,
Yes a lot has probably changed in the last 35 years - you won't have to walk up the mountain to ski down it!! hehehe |

For the information of interested skiers, especially around Zuerich:
I was up at Hoch Ybrig yesterday. Only one part open (Sternen) but pretty reasonable snow, if a bit icy. Also the runs on Sternen have a reasonably good length and variety as you can cross between the two pistes on this peak at several points. The ticket price was reduced to compensate for the lack of open pistes at 38CHF for a full day.
Also not too crowded either - we got a full day's skiing in with few waits for the lift. Well worth considering if you are looking for a warm-up to the main season.

Another ski report - was at Davos/Parsenn yesterday. Plenty of snow in the right places, about half the lifts were open. I see on the report that almost everything is open at Davos/Jakobshorn. There was hardly anyone around, but it was a Monday. I heard from people there that things were pretty crowded on Sunday due to the reduced number of runs. I guess that's the price you pay for going to a resort that actually has snow :-)
Overall an enjoyable day and some nice long runs with excellent piste conditions.

Oh forgot to mention that the new Klosters bypass is open - they reckon it saves 15 minutes from your journey time. I guess it depends on whether you got stuck in the traffic in Klosters or not. But the new tunnel is about 4.5kms long and worth a look!
