| | | Ranting or Being seriously impatient
Not sure how to define my current state, childish, stupid, naive, impatient. One thing is for sure, Waiting period sucks !!!
I was interviewed by my 1 of my dream companies. And there are not many companies I dream to work for. I'm trying for the right position in this company since 2008 and was dreaming to work for it since 2005, a year before I left my own country to get myself a degree from the top universities in Switzerland. Thoughout my education here, I focused on keeping up with the companies products and news and upcoming events. Tried for internships and later for full time jobs but couldn't make it. Of course I worked then for another US company until then and made good progress and learnt new skills and became better at what I do. But the thirst n hunger to work for this company never subsided.
Now the role i applied for, suits me more than any other job I was hired for when compared to the job advert. I did much better than I expected to do during all my interviews with this company. And now the only thing is to know if I made the last round of interview.
Through a personal contact in the same company, I came to know that the position I applied and interviewed for will close by this month and there are 2 people being considered for the job from all those who made it until now. I dont know yet, if I am among those final 2. I have been waiting for the call for the final interview, and it hasn't come yet. I haven't got a rejection call or email either. 11 working days have passed since i gave my last interview.
I am tired of waiting. I am not scared of failing or rather not making something, even if I tried my best, since I can accept such situations, wouldn't be my first time. However, give the fact, its seriously my dream company in CH and the job perfectly fits my career aspiration. I can't take this waiting and rejection for this job will be difficult too, but the waiting time which doesn't give me any idea wats gonna happen is much worse than the rejection.
I just wanted to get it out. I apologize in advance if it was annoying.

Dream jobs. Do you remember some of your dreams...? In my view, having a dream job is setting yourself up for disappointment. It's highly unlikely that the experience of actually working there will ever live up to your expectations.
The fact is, the longer you're waiting, the less likely you've been successful.

However, I do not share your views of dream job = disappointment. Probably I might have not had experiences which you might have had to reach on such conclusion.
And talking about expectations, most of the things are either over or under our expectation, one of the reason is, we, humans are barely satisfied with anything and everything. well thats my take. The point is to make best of what we have and what we can do. Finding faults will always be easier.
I strongly beleive in the word HOPE . And I hope the job will be better than other prospects out there . Having hope usually assists in feeling the day is brighter. French hope to get back AAA ratings. North Koreans hope they will now have electricity. Many people over the world hope the nuclear watch will change back to 30 minutes to 12.
However, I agree with you about longer I have to wait, thiner are the chances, but hope is what I have

I'm still waiting for a call from NASA to go to the moon on an Apollo mission. Last I heard, they don't currently fly to that destination any longer.
I say wait for two weeks after the last interview, then call. In other words, next week. You have nothing to lose.

You never know what can happen until you try |

A lot of companies are only just now clearing off the backlog on their desks from the Christmas season, so even places that are notoriously slow are even slower. I would give a call but don't read too much into the timeline right now, last week people were still coming back from xmas vacay. So they might not have had until now all the people in the office needed to sign off and make the decision. Good luck!

Not everything should be learned from others mistakes is what this observer says | | | | | But those who don't learn from history are condemned to repeat it. I've seen many people who's dream job turned out to be like that dream where you try to run, but you can't and the animated paisley turnips and the trombone playing spiders just keep coming closer...
Why should it be different for you? I can't think I've ever met anyone who's dreamed of working for a particular employer, got that job and then found it met all their expectations.
Currently, I have what I consider to be a great job. I really enjoy my work and the people I work with. The work, I suppose, is something you can dream about, but what really makes a good working environment is the people you work with. You can't "dream" them.

Just to throw it out there: I interviewed for and received my dream job and it exceeded my expectations. I loved it. I do think that experience was exceptional, and I don't expect that most of my career path will be so dreamy, but I don't think there is anything wrong with hope either.
To the OP, good luck, and keep us posted (rooting for you!)

I can't think I've ever met anyone who's dreamed of working for a particular employer, got that job and then found it met all their expectations. | | | | | It seems you have generalized and concluded the idea that dream job doesnt exist. I can name a few from the top of my mind right now the people who have it. However, i havent met them personally But they do exist | Quote: | | | | | Currently, I have what I consider to be a great job. I really enjoy my work and the people I work with. However I worked in companies before where the people were great and product i worked for wasn't keeping me motivated. Other time, I worked with not so great people, however what the company did was excellent. In the end, its to find the balance. I cannot always find everything perfect with what i call my dream job. However, its like kid, who always though Hulk Hogan always drank his milk, said his prayers and listening to his mother, made him what he is. And they dont wanna believe Hogan was on steroids , until they meet him. I agree to be in that zone. And being there is bliss .
For now, given out all the companies out there and my area of interest and this job offer. I once again dare to define it as my dream job | |
