Re: buying a watch directly at the factory

Nice to know someone remembers the name! I managed to buy one of the last remaining Favre Leuba watches I discovered by chance at Geneva airport duty free about 5 years ago. Not a patch on the one my dad made me- but still. I also have an old Fleurier watch from the 50s. If I remember rightly we also had Olma here, factory then taken over by Baulme et Mercier later. It is nice to see Fleurier and the Val-de-Travers up there again, with the best of them, Vaucher, Bovet, Choppard, Parmigiani and soon Cartier. If anybody is interested in the watch industry, there are so many jobs going here, and apprenticeships, and also an independent watch making school.

I like this one (disclosure: I am not connected in any way to this item)

I like the brand, this model and the movement. Very classy.

Ulysse Nardin is also a favourite of mine. One of the Nardin daughters was my mum's best friend right into their very old age, so the brand is close to my heart.

BTW if you are ever in Le Locle, do go to the Nardin watch museum, called Musée des Monts, which is in the old Nardin family home. Fabulous collection.

Will do, thanks for the tip!

By the way Odile, did you go to the Breguet exhibition?
I thought the timepieces were exceptional but the way they were displayed was poor.

Does anyone under the age of 30 still use watches, what with 100% saturation of mobile phones, PC's, TV's etc?
Interesting comment, I will be noticing that for all under 30 going forward

I am well over 30, have an iphone, another mobile, more than one laptop, but like my watch when out and about, at home like the clock on the wall and a paper calendar, but do tend to look at the computer calendar.
