I love fruit bread / cake but where's the fruit?

Coming from the UK I have grown up with soft moist malt loaf , hot cross buns(available all year) and other fruit buns and cakes filled repeat filled with soft delicious sultanas , raisins , currants and even the occasional glace cherry and citrus peel.
My partner brought back from baker Genfer tonight a fruit bun , at my request , where the hell is the fruit!!!??? 3 miserable unnidentifed fruit objects on the exterior surface and not a one inside!! How the hell do they do that?
Also Migros fruit bread - have you tried it? Drier than a witches tit
Every fricking cake has hazelnuts or pear. Why oh why can't we have more variety.........
Mr Angry.

I think I've got one in a tin somewhere in a moving box in the cellar, couple of years old by now. One of those boxes I've never opened after the move and should just throw away but can't quite do it, be happy to dig that out for you if it will help

Try organic shops.
Egli and Müller sell buns with nuts and figs and another one which is called "Früchtebrötchen".
My favorite one, though, is the "Pausenbrötchen".
In this city, the only bakery products worth eating come from organic shops.
Exceptions are far and few.

I feel your pain - what I wouldn't give for a lovely Greggs fruit bun...
Only way I have found is to buy a bread machine and experiment with Zopf bread mixes and lots of fruit. Bit hit and miss but better than the traditional swiss haselnut and cardboard bun...

Re: I love fruit bread/cake. Where the ferk is the fruit!!!!

I like those "pausenbrotli" they have at Coop, they have that Jamadu character on the price thingie in front of the bin - and have nuts and fruits inside. They cost something around 1chf each (maybe 95rappen?).

I think they're supposed to be snack bread for kids but they've proven themselves to be pretty perfect to me, the couple times I'm grabbing something quick before heading off on the tram without remembering to eat something at home.

You can find them among the other Jamadu stuff here: http://www.coop.ch/pb/site/common/no...Lde/index.html

Make your own.

The only thing we have had trouble getting here are currants. (but we've got a nice stash now).

My m-i-l grows them in her garden so I tend to not pay attention so much when they're in the store BUT I do remember seeing lovely looking containers of red currants at Coop. She freezes hers as she usually uses them for "confi" but I imagine they dry nicely also.

Just thinking about them makes my mouth water - love, love love, having red currant jam and cream cheese on a nice hunk of bread.

I meant these currants:

I believe this discussion has been had before on EF.

Do you have some sort of mental link with my cat? She woke me about the "exact" time you posted this...

Thanks for the pic and clarification, whenever they were discussed before but I'd always thought ya'll were talking about black currants or "cassis" fruit. I don't like those much, I'm curious now about the taste of the Greek currrants (which apparently are actually a sort of grape).

I didn't look at the picture too closely. I thought it was the black currants.

Yes - bloody hazelnuts in everything. And when not hazelnuts, then almonds.
Switzerland is definitely nutty

Re: I love fruit bread / cake but where's the fruit?

My partner also has an issue with the lack of fruit in the bread here so we end up bringing lots back from the UK, the nearest thing we have found is Maisbrot/brotli which they sell at the bakery in the Bahnhof or Rosinenbrotli at Jungs which are super expensive! Aldi also do an ok fruity bun but you have to be lucky as they go quickly. Or get the cookery books out
