Cold Weather? It`s the grey that`s getting to me.

It`s my second year in Switzerland. Love the place, but I have to ask- is this winter exceptional as far as "grey"? Live in the Zug-Luzern region and the number of overcast days is just mind blowing.

I can tolerate the cold. It`s day after grinding day of grey overcast that is getting to me and that`s saying something since I`m gone an awful lot on business.

It`s making me think of doing something drastic and moving to Valais!

You're obviously in the wrong canton. This is the first grey day we've had in Bern/Fribourg for days. Up till now it's been crystal clear blue skies, but hellishly cold.

Or do something even more drastic and go up some of the mountains to get above the cloud layer

But to answer your question, based purely on my personal observations - yes, the last month or so in particularly has been exceptional in the frequency and magnitude of snow, and hence overcast days, compared with a 'normal' winter, if such a thing could ever be said to exist.

I`m not sure that makes me feel better! I don`t doubt it. I have noticed that small distances, especially outside of the Luzern valleys make for great improvements in the weather.

Oh I wasn't trying to make you feel better. Quite the opposite

Here is a solution to the cold.

Flashlove in Basel Bahnhof SBB 14 Februar 18:00 pm

Come with someone and wait for the whistle to blow at 6 pm

Hug for 5 minutes

The whistle will blow again

Face the main entrance with your arms wide open for a hug to a stranger

Stay like this for 5 more minutes

BE there! Spread the word!

I would be careful of strangers wanting to hug.

You think that's grey? I lived in Cologne, the rainiest and most overcast city in Europe, for 3 years. I recall the winter of 2010 where I saw 0 days of sunshine for the entire month of February!

It is pretty bad here. I moved to ZG in early November and cannot remember more than three or four really clear days since then. Although this evening, the Rigi was sort of almost semi-visible from the train between Cham and Zug.

And I thought Neuchâtel was foggy...

I can't complain about Lausanne either, 90% or more of the days during this cold weather wave have been very sunny, and I very agree with the OP, cold: ok, cloudy: that's depressing
