Re: Where Do All The Old People Go!

Well if its mild dementia then yes they also come into elderly peoples homes. But as it gets progressively worse then they are either put into another home or section of the home.Well thats how it is where I work. For the simple reason that they need a more one to one care. And in a home with 90 people they never get that.

Re: Where Do All The Old People Go!

I have no idea what they do with the old people in other cantons, but in Glarnerland they are all sent to an enormous cave at the age of 75 to prevent them from cluttering up the valley.

It's quite comfortable in there, with many exciting social and cultural events laid on for the residents' entertainment, and they are even allowed out twice a year to visit their families, enjoy an ice cream or look at the television.

Space in the cave is limited, however, so each resident is incinerated in a pool of lava upon reaching her 90th birthday. The procedure is accompanied by great festivities and most people look forward to it, even if they do worry a bit about whether the sweat will show through their sta-prest slacks.

I don't know why other cantons don't do this, although the absence of lava pools might be one reason. Also, human rights and that.

those with advanced alzheimer usually have a separate wing, maybe with their own garden, where they can wander on their own without being able to get out.

Well I'm still here, so I take it that they don't do that with the 75 year olds in Canton Zürich. Maybe at the age of 76?

They go by actual age, not mere physical age.

You've still got a good 54 years to go, Longbyt.

Around here too. An excellent arrangement as the problem of losing orientation on the one hand and a necessity for exercise on the other are both taken into consideration. Flowers in the gardens and a flock of sheep just over a fence are probably happy memories of their younger years too.

Re: Where Do All The Old People Go!

Well, a few of them are just across the street... I can see an-always-quiet elder's house from the window. Different cultural approach from what I'm used to but well... I hope they're enjoying it!

omtatsat, thank you for the clarification. Out of curiosity, how much an elderly pays at the place you work for?
