| | | How do you boost your energy levels?
I have a very early start on Thursdays and it is extremely hard for me to get on with things on that day. It doesn’t get better in the spring because to say I am not a morning person would be an understatement. What do you do to boost your energy levels when all you want to do is to crawl back into bed? Any secret tips, herbal concoctions, homeopathic remedies ( ) you might want to share?

Get up, go into the kitchen, take a large cup out of the cupboard, put the kettle on and make yourself a nice hot cup of tea to take back to bed with you for a few minutes. There's nothing like it.

Get up and go right away in the shower. Not too hot the water.
It will wake you up and give you a boost. Take a glass of orange juice and tea or coffee.

No secrets, just a good breakfast, cut down on sugar, have a handful of almonds, keep hydrated during the day and maybe have a brisk ten minute walk to get yourself going. Get to bed early on Wednesday too!

I work full time and I still have to wake up several time per night to feed my daughter.
Coffee. I couldn't live without coffee. And some sugar in the morning for a quick boost of energy.
I've heard great things about those special alarm clocks that imitate sun rise (Philips has one). It's supposed to wake you up gradually.

Think of sugar as 'empty energy'.
''You are what you eat''
The best thing is a high protein diet (egg whites, fish, turkey etc...) with complex carbs (rolled oats, brown rice, porridge etc...)
Added with plenty of fruit, veg and olive oil, you cant go wrong.
I supliment my diet with 2/3 100% Whey protein powder shakes a day.
Drinking plenty of water is also very essential as our bodies are mostly made of water.
With rugby 3 times a week and also 3 x 2 hour gym sessions, i always have energy.
cheers

Short power naps throughout the day, when an opportunity presents itself.
Drink plenty of fizzy water, for flushing out the crap.

I'm naturally high-energy so there isn't much I need to actively do beyond the normal lifestyle I lead.
When I'm not pregnant, I exercise with heavy weights and a small amount of cardio. As for diet, I eat whatever I want when I'm hungry. This usually involves a pretty diverse range of foods. I happen to adore the traditionally healthy stuff but I also eat refined sugar on a regular basis. And no, I don't crash from a chocolate bar or a piece of cake. ;p
I don't agree with some bits that have been said so far - especially around the different ways one 'should' be eating, for instance. The best diet for you is one that leaves you feeling good. High protein was mentioned and indeed I have friends who feel great eating this way. But it makes me feel awful; I do better with more carbs and tend to eat a lot of fruits, veggies, pasta and bread.

I find it is also worthwhile to look into your iron levels and up your intake of iron-heavy foods, or go with an iron supplement.

Do it the swiss way:
Just kidding - Swiss Cheddar has good advice. I do something that makes me sweat for an hour, every day. Humans aren't evolved to be sedentary. I also try to eat properly, avoiding things like the garbage pic I posted. Stay hydrated. Sleep when you can, and on a regular cycle if possible.

Hold on one cotton picking moment.....if it was truly effective, Mrs Mirfield wouldn't be on her PC at 0845 on a Thursday morning, she'd be recovering until 1100 with a lazy cigarette

Chia seeds are your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvia_hispanica
Mix about a tablespoon with half a cup of water and add lime or orange to taste.
Then there's Acai powder too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%C3%A7a%C3%AD_palm
Vitality and great for skin too.
These kind of products are available in Switzerland at the BioSamara store.
