It's frog mating season

I drove over about 20 flattened frogs/toads on my way home last night. The road looked like a battle field.

So please be aware that frogs are out and about right now looking for the perfect spot to lay their eggs.

Where they already flat before or after you rode over them?

On a similar subject, I am happy that it is spring again with the birds singing outside

Today I was driving in Winterthur, along a stream and I saw a frog crossing sign, I've never seen one before! Wonder if it's seasonal?

I remember one of the first time I was driving in England and I saw a sign "toads ahead" ... I chuckled a little bit... toads in the road.. bahhhhh.

then I came around the corner and just as oly said it looked like a battlefield.. carnage everywhere... toads the size of serving platters

Yes, it is, we have them here as well, along with the anti-frog fences!

Re: It's frog mating season

A couple of roads near the zoo are closed over night to let the frogs cross safely.

Re: It's frog mating season

Great pic! I brought the children in my kindergarten class to the local pond last week, and the frogs were really going at it. Most of the children simply asked why they were hugging... a slightly more educated child was confused when several frogs were piled on top of each other, and said that his mummy told him that 'only two animals can have sex'

Don't worry. Stay away from ponds and streams. Anyway, frogs are important to the ecosystem, so we should be happy they're makin' whoopie. Or whatever it is they do.
