Welcome to the forum.
I find Badenerstrasse more convenient ( public transport etc. )

Welcome to English Forum.
Badenerstrasse, no question. You can mostly walk home from anywhere and you won't need to be walking far as it's an artery for nightlife between Langstrasse, ZüriWest & the city centre. Plenty of trams to help too.

I'd second Badenerstrasse (or third it). But note that there is a tram route along this street. But even then I'd choose Badnerstrasse over Aprikosenstrasse from which you will need to get a train to get into the city centre.

Option 2 is in the middle of nowhere. | | | | | Right. option 2 is Schwamendingen, which means boring, inconvient, etc, while Badenerstrasse is the link between entertainment on one side and downtown plus lake on the other

I started my Zurich life in Badenerstrasse and don't regret it one bit, it's a great area. Gor for it!
If you are thinking about having children though I think Oerlikon is better |

However if you are into Swimming, a really great indoor swimming pool is near your option no. 2. Just thought I'd point that out.

Keep in mind that Badenerstrasse is very long (by Swiss standards at least) and it will make quite a difference whether you end up near Stauffacher or way out near Schlieren. However, even the most remote point on Badenerstrasse probably still beats Schwamendingen.
If you plan to use a bicyle, Badenerstrasse does have one great advantage (no matter where): It's basically on the same level as the city center, while Aprikosenstrasse is behind a hill.

As the others said, go for Badenerstrasse, it's lively and well connected to downtown.
If you are in the right part of it (near Helvetiaplatz/Langstrasse) it's an excellent place to live: bars, clubs, restaurants and a lively neighborhood with interesting people. If you are far away in direction Altstetten it's still better than Aprikosestrasse: you can hop on a tram or on the bike and be in the center in a few minutes.

What number of Badenerstrasse? Badenerstrasse it is a very long street (longest in Zurich?). For ex. up to 50 you are very near the city center, up to 200 you are near KPMG and Langstrasse (at 110, very virbant night life). At 230 you have the Lochergut (once hip, Max Frisch lived there, then regarded as eye sore, now hip again). At 350 you are at the Albisriederplatz with a lot of traffic (to Swiss standard). The part up to 480 has some newly build apartment houses, on the even numbered side, and most likely will see some new development at the odd numbered side (at the moment a very unique and interesting indoor flea market). At 500 to 530 you will have the Letzigrund football and athletic stadium (also used for concerts), nearby you also have a big outdoor swimming pool (build by the Max Frisch mentioned above), also nearby is the Carmelo meat market just by the big slaughter house. At 530 you will find one of the cheap Barkat markets. From 530 to 600 you have a mix of apartment houses and businesses (UBS, indoor car dealers) At 570 you are near the Letzipark shopping mall. At 630 Altstetten begins, at 670 is Lindenplatz, there is a farmers market each Saturday and Wednesday morning. At 750 is Farbhof, the very last stop of Tram No. 2. After that you are out in the nowhere. Thats were you are better of with Aprikosenstrasse.

This is freaky - I lived for two years on Aprikosenstrasse. After another two years in Uster, I'm back in the city living on - you guessed it: Badenerstrasse.
From my experience, let me tell you that Badenerstrasse offers much much more than the alternative. It's a long street, going from Stauffacher or so and crossing several districts, but even towards the end at Albisrieden there's a bit more going on than in Schwamendingen.

Yes, Badenerstrasse.
5min walk to Letzipark Shoppingcenter, Stadion Letzigrund just opposite, Big outdoor pool around the corner (5min walk), Asian Restaurant (Singapore) across the street, German Restaurant beside Letzigrund, 3min tram ride to Albisriederplatz where you will find a bakery which is open 7days a week, different butchers, a Gelateria etc., 15min by tram to main station, 10min to Altstetten train station. Lots of really nice restaurants in walking distance.
