I think you need to find out the context behind it. Clearly, it will be your natural instinct to be worried, but if you speak to them about it you may find there was a reason for the lie. It sounds a bit clichéd, but imagine how you would feel if you get angry and later find out they were planning a surprise for you, or counselling a cousin unbeknown to you on some family issues.
