By that i mean, do they make judgement based on race? Does it matter if you are black/white? Is dressing like 50 Cent a big turn-off? Should one act like a hommie, geek or pleya to get lucky with the ladies? I don't mean this in a sexual way, but merely for establishing a friendship with the Swiss faster and smoothly.
But i keep on getting this vibe, that most girls arent looking to date/befriend with foreign guys specially with Arabs and Blacks.

So, what do you do to get liked around here, are the girls really materialistic?

Switzerland is highly driven by the financial sector so people tend to dress up more here than other parts of the world so I think the girls prefer well dressed guys over hip hop styles but of course there are girls in the 16-24 age group that like that as well. Personally I dated quiet a few Swiss women and they were not materialistic. They are women who rather be independent and don't like to show money too much. But there is exceptions to every rule! Peace!

i find the way to make friends and getting on with people is just being yourself. dont play a role, dont show off too much, keep the understatement up. what goes around comes around. if you show off youll find people liking you because of money, status symbols n all that. if it doesnt matter to you...then it doesnt matter.

eg my ex-gfs parents inherited a large ground on lake zurich and a hotel. they sold the hotel. from that money they built a brand new bauhaus like apartment block with 15 flats on said ground. my ex-gf gave a sh*t about what this is all worth, what money her parents will make renting it all out etc. as her sister already cut the cake whats hers after her parents have passed away... you see?

another fam i know, very rich, never showed it off. you could only tell by some details like education my friend was given, the institution cost money, so they must be rich, etc. but they rather played it down and most people i have met here being worthy play it down too. with nouveau-rich its different, same with people that think(!) they have little money and want to profit from the partner.

its up to you what you make of it...

Well i guess i might have mis-judged them quikly, as it is too early to get know anything for sure, by being here in less than 2 months.

But, i find it puzzling that the good old way of walking up directly towards a girl and introducing yourself is a painfull experience, so much so it makes you wander '' How do guys hook-up with girls in here?'' It seems the only way any girl can show you a polite face is, if she knew you came to her to ask for directions.

Have you ever walked onto a girl , in public places and ACTUALLY got her to show you a happy face, let alone getting her number.

If no, then we can certainly say, discos, night clubs, bars are the only way to go in here.

I don't think you have to rely on nightclubs....I'm too old and met my wife before they were socially acceptable, but dating websites seem like a better alternative and it seems most singles now use them; so isn't just for nerds anymore. As a matter of fact, I went to my cousin's wedding last year. She was a sorority girl and star track athlete (very pretty) and she married a Navy fighter pilot (also a good looking guy). They met on Match.com and were proud of it....so not just for nerds anymore. I'm sure there is a Swiss dating site.

I think girls who are into hip hop might go for guys dressed like they are into hip hop. I think girls who dress well, might be interested in their men dressing well, as well. I could do this all day...

My personal view is that most Swiss girls prefer Swiss men. Even German men have problems picking up Swiss girls. Their second choice is Italian men.

You definitely won't have any success trying to meet women on the street, that approach makes them feel cheap, like a call-girl. You need to join a club, to show them you are a nice guy. Then maybe they will show interest.

Materialistic? Yes I think they are, most modern girls are. If you don't have a car, and a good job your chances are small.

I wouldn't trust anyone who wasn't introduced in my circle of friends...

I do feel for the guys who have to go up to girls, what must that be like! Must be so awkward and embarrassing if they say no, or shun you.

I have never gone up to a girl in my life, and yet I am a confident person. For me, these things have always just happened. Whether its a friend of a friend, someone in the workplace, a mutual eye catching moment, or subliminal magnetic force that drew two people together, you know, when your dancing, they're dancing, they come closer, you move closer, then BOOM.

This might offend some, but Lausanne is special for Blacks and Arabs. Most of the cocaine dealing is done by Blacks, more specifically West Africans. You see them every evening in the Chauderon - Riponne - St François triangle doing nothing but that. The Arabs you see are usually from the Maghreb (that's Morocco-Algeria-Tunisia) or from France and those that aren't dealing marijuana are likely to be on a stealing spree. They also like to harass girls in nightclubs around the Flon area. French Arabs in particular have a really bad reputation for treating women badly and looking for fights on the slightest pretext.

So if you're of one of those ethnic flavour, expect a lot of (often wrong) prejudice to be aimed at you when going out in the evening. Dressing hiphop in particular will attract attention from the police and unless the girls are into rnb/hiphop they'll avoid you... or ask you for drugs. It's really tough being a young professional guy from Africa or North America (if dark skinned, the others get the "america is evil" story instead) in this town if you want to meet girls, but if you have the moves, smile a lot and don't over do it you'll be ok.
