Friends of mine have asked I bring them a deck or two of tarot cards when I visit in a couple of weeks. They tell me one of the most interesting and popular manufacturers of tarot cards is from Switzerland, but I can't recall seeing any for sale in stores.

Would anyone have a suggestion where I can find a store selling more than just straight, typical tarot cards in Basel? (sorry, no time to travel to Zurich or elsewhere before this trip).

you might have a look at the "Häfelimärt" up on the Petersplatz, they sell all kinds of wierd sh...er stuff there
