Nice places in Switzerland

Hi all

at the end of this month my girlfriend will turn 30 and I wanted to take her in a nice romantic place in Switzerland.
I was thinking about the "top of the world" restaurant... but looks like there are different ones.
which one is the best/most romantic one?

of course any other suggestion is welcome.

thanks a lot.
ale.

Re: Nice places in Switzerland

If you do go to Paris, avoid the subway.

In just a few Metro trips over a weekend, I stepped over a bathtub-sized pool of blood, sat near a man with a wet, festering, gangrenous foot that smelled bad enough to clear out an entire subway car, and saw another man squatting on the platform generously, visibly, and enthusiastically applying some sort of ointment to his anus. As a guy who flushes public toilets with his foot, and touches nothing in a public bathroom without a paper towel in my hand, "romantic" isn't the first word that springs to mind when I think of Paris.

I've been to a few restaurants on the top of mountains, I haven't really found one I'd consider romantic, they've generally been pretty generic and unimpressive both from an ambiance and a romance perspective, but I'm sure something nice exists. (I ran in a race that went past Hotel Weisshorn in Valais last year, it looked amazing, albeit expensive, and judging by the website, the food looks good too.)

Hi all
to take her in a nice romantic place in Switzerland.
Probably you want to take her "to" a romantic place. Then again, your original statement might also be true

Re: Nice places in Switzerland

I give a second vote for Restaurant Waid. The views are fantastic, and the food is lovely. This time of year, being able to sit outside and enjoy the view, the food and the company can't be any more romantic. It's almost guaranteed that she will love it.

I would suggest choosing to sit on the "Wok" side of the restaurant. They have a better selection, and this is really where the views are best.

Re: Nice places in Switzerland

Hi,
Thank you all for the suggestions: it always surprises me the way you all actively bring in your ideas in things like this.
Sorry for my super late reply: I only wish I had lot of the time to invest in this search, but this is not the case at the moment :-(

By the way, my gf's birthday is in 3 days and, though I have some backup-plans, I have still not finalized anything.
I guess I should focus on some specific areas, also because she will be traveling from Italy (Milan) and I have to facilitate her journey (considering that the Gotthard train line is partially shut).

For this reason I wanted to look for something romantic and relaxing in Interlaken/Grindelwald area.
My ideal plan would comprise:
For Friday - checkin during the evening, welcome drink, a nice dinner in a romantic venue, a walk, a nice room (ideally a suite) in which we can...(omissis here).
For Saturday - Breakfast in bed, some time to spend in a Spa/Termalbad, then cuddling in the room the rest of the day until dinner and visit to a nice town in the evening.
Sunday, checkout formalities and whatever we would like to do and improvise.

Another solution might be the Luzern/Vierwaldstättersee area, but in this case I have to find a solution for her journey.
Am I too ambitious?
Does anyone know a nice place/hotel/spa that meets all these “requirements”? :-)
Thanks a lot to you all in any case for your outstanding support!

Ciao
Ale

Here is an excellent address for a stay in the region of Interlaken:
www.lavendelhaus.ch in Wilderswil, 3 km from Interlaken

If you want to stay in hotel with a spa there are the followinge ones:
www.victoria-jungfrau.ch
http://www.clubgrandhotelpalace.ch/t...eaurivage.html

These two five-star-hotels are both in Interlaken, or as an alternative
www.beatus.ch in Merligen, a few km from Interlaken

All three hotels offer very good food,
But I think the best restaurant in the region and a hotel with nice rooms too is the Alpenblick in Wilderswil.

Re: Nice places in Switzerland

A nice walk around the stunning Lavaux vineyards and then stay in Montreux, next day you take a boat in wonderful Lake Geneva or better, walk along the lake on the "path of flowers" towards the wonderful Château de Chillon, and she's gonna drool in happiness.

Re: Nice places in Switzerland

All,

Thank you all for your great suggestions!
I have actually followed some of them...but in some cases, the place was already full.

I was really close to book a room at the Lavendel Haus: Claudia, the owner, is an extremely kind person, and I am sure soon I will try to stay there.

At the end I have booked a place in Italy, around Piacenza. It's a castle. I have already been there and it's magic. The town (borgo) is called Castell'Arquato.
I'm playing home, since I'm Italian...and that for sure helps.

p.s.: No one mentioned the Grandhotel Giessbach (http://www.giessbach.ch/about-the-grandhotel.html) built on the falls of the Lake Brienz. Just wanted to add my two cents
