I find it interesting too. I thought they finally closed the case just earlier this year. And now they are bringing it up again...

My Mum used to ride a bike when she was pregnant with me...They arrested her for Dope peddling.

I think the two investigations are by two different bodies, that's why.

To be honest, I'm sure they're all well doped-up and the authorities will never get control over it so why not just let them do it? At least eveyone is on a level playing field and there'll be no more 'cheating'.

Different cases.
having been a former competitive cyclist I can say first hand, most racers were doing something.. the most common was blood doping. i am a big fan of Lance A and regardless of what they conclude this time, they either need to charge everyone or let it go. The former will bring cycling to a halt.

The tests are never accurate, nor can they be trusted. If you recall in the 80's when Lemond was on the verge of his first victory the French went after him hard because the beloved Bernard Hinault was not going to have the victory.

If you ask me, and you didn't so let me rephrase.. in my humble opinion, they need a global testing policy that starts every day with every rider, and another at the end of the race (don't think the food cannot contain something given during a stage).

Then, once they figure this out, they should then check every athlete in every sport because its a much bigger issue than just one rider.

With or without doping he is still the best for me. It's not as if the others were clean.

Let the witchhunt begin!

(caveat: I'm a cyclist too, if the avatar wasn't enough of a giveaway, but I'm too fat and old now to be a competitive one)

I'm sure he could never have achieved what he did if he was clean, but this is political in my view. I think they are all at it, some get caught and some slip through, whether this is good luck or some other reason you would have to make your own mind up.

I'm sorry... was that a question?

Listen, the worst offense ever around me was blood doping, but I was young and didn't know any different. In fact, it seemed to be ok to me because its my blood out, then my blood in. Technically, no illegal substance was ever ingested.

With that said, and if I could do it over, I would not do it again.

The list goes on for miles with those who are doing something and while that in and of itself doesn't make it right, or better, many in the cycling world hate that he has won so many times especially those not born in the US. It is just a pride thing or something, and most of these witch hunts are lead by the French I am sorry to say.

Re: Lance Armstrong charged with doping by USADA

What bothers me the most is the righteous indignation of those who did use PEDs but swear "6 ways to Sunday" that they did not.

For me, that goes to character... and I don't necessarily expect that TOP athlete's will have good character any more than the general population. I guess I would rather hear "no comment" than "I did not have sex with that woman..." Oops, wrong case!

But there is going to be a problem for as long as there is not a foolproof testing protocol. So what do you do... I don't think spending public money going after a retired athlete (Lance/Barry Bonds, etc) is a good use of funds.

Re: Lance Armstrong charged with doping by USADA

It's like dodging taxes or taking heroin ... because many get away with it, we should stop trying to catch those who are doing it, right?

Well, no, not in my book.

IMHO, Lance has been taking every drug he thought that he could get away with since always and swearing blind at the same time that he was clean. See the fine book "LA confidential", for a start. I'd love to see him nailed.

What you're really saying is that you'd love to see every single athlete in professional sports 'nailed' and professional sports killed off because of it because, in effect, that's what would happen. I actually don't have a problem with that but let's be honest: Lance is only the target because he's a) successful and b) not French, and c) retired.

Re: Lance Armstrong charged with doping by USADA

Lance's formal statement. I don't really understand why bring a new case and not decide one way or the other in the old case? I get that it is different agencies, but it seems like there should be a double-jeopardy issue here preventing this resurfacing whenever.
