A family member in India is planning to spend Euro 5,000 (a lot of money for them!) to get a "Swiss" MBA from Educatis Graduate School of Management. This is a distance learning course based in canton Uri. She would like advice on whether this is a legitimate / recognized school and program. As I have never heard of them, I cannot help here. Anyone out there who knows something about this program?

A MBA can be sold as "continuing education" and the denomination is not protected - therefore the quality not independently assessed and/or assured - hence anyone can run a MBA factory in their back yard if they fancy.

Sorry, I have not heard of them, I appreciate that is a lot of money, but to me it sounds quite cheap for an MBA, suspiciously so.

Definitely worth looking into for a bit more information though, I hope someone has had dealings with them on here.

This school is a private school. Their MBA is not recognised by the Swiss authorities.

If the MBA is not going to be recognised by anyone it really seems like a waste of money and time.

That is interesting, which particular authorities are these, is there some form of academic list, the company in question was not listed amongst the Financial Times online MBA providers but that could simply be incomplete?

So, is there a list of reputable Swiss institutions held somewhere or is it simply down to showing off accreditation?

It would be illegal for this school to call itself a University in other cantons. Switzerland has a very federal systems, some cantons (especially those without their own state Universities) do not protect the title. Accreditation has been refused by the SUK.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I have summarized what I have learned and sent the information to my niece. Hopefully she makes a good decision!

Under the 2 following links you can find the list of all institutions of tertiary level (EU Norm: ISCED 5A) that are authorised and recognised at a national level (be carefull, accreditation is something different!).
www.crus.ch (universities, Federal department of home affairs (or google for EDI in German)
www.kfh.ch (universities of applied sciences, Federal department of economic affairs, or EVD in German).
www.cohep.ch (teachers uni).

Titles given by the institutions on the lists are recognised and protected in Switzerland.
Of course, there are other reputable institutions in Switzerland that are not on the list - because they are private. One of them is IMD in Lausanne.
