| | | fat bum
hello everyone
since arriving all i have done is eat, eat and oh yes eat........
i work very long irregular hours, i do try to walk as often as i can,
a favorite is felsenegg, but it is just not enough.
i have a few ailments that stop me from doing a few things (im only 40 and falling apart)
what sports are available in zurich where you don't have to sign up for months on end, can chop and change dates and times, meet others, have a giggle, and get fit.
i also have a friend coming over for a few days who is very keen and also very good windsurfer, sailor etc. any suggestions where he could bum a sail in the zurich area? or rent a windsurfer?
i need help with backing off from the cheese, getting tired of seeing my bum grow.
pls no sarky comments like "you just need to get out there and do it!"
i realize that..........................
send through those wonderful, fun ideas. and i am looking for FUN things to do
thanx all

go into the ww.meetup.org site and then to the Zurich pages. There, you will find all sorts of activities to join in with as, and when, you want to.

Cycling?
Mountain and hill walking? I recommend the Zurich Outdoor Group via the meetup site.

NUMBER 7 - you state the obvious. if i was able to do that i would not be asking for help. i walk 30 min to work every morning and back in the evenings. i start at 7am and i am lucky to get back by 8pm earliest. i was hoping to do something fun if i was lucky enough to get 30 min or 1hr in the day - unlikely but we can all live in hope. i do get most sundays off and i work 3/4 wks on and 1 week off which i usually spend in the uk..........
and i do LOVE FOOD including salads, fish, veggies fruit.........cheese is my downfall though.

I know how you feel!! since moving here I've gone up a size - but I've never been fitter with all the cycling and walking - crazy!!!
Not sure what you can do in Zurich but here is Basel we go cycling - especially on the weekends - along the river paths or out to france or Germany. I actually think joining a gym was the greatest thing we could do as far as settling in. WE don't do any 'gym/weight' work but just do classes - spin and Zumba. WE've met lots of nice people and its fun to exercise to loud, lively music with a group of other people. I've looked at classes where you pay as you go but they are usually 20 - 25 per class and my gym is only 60 a month and I can go to as many classes as I like so it works out much cheaper.
Hopefully now that its summer you can replace some of the cheese and bread with fresh fruit and veg. I know the tomatoes from the farm markets are far better than anything we could buy in the UK.
Another thing I've always done was to have a fruit day - or fruit fast. Usually once a month but if I find my weight drifting up I'll do it once a week. I've now seen reports that suggest this is one of the best ways to lose weight - and keep it off. You eat sensibly (as best as you can) all week but have one day of fruit or salads. Because you eat normally the rest of the week your metabolism doesn't cut back like on a full restriction diet.
Good luck - and if you find something that works please pass it along..

Apart from when you start to eat a normal amount again and you'll pile it back on quickly!
I think the OP knows what she needs to do - make small changes to diet, do some exercise when possible etc but mostly she needs to be patient. It's not going to come off quickly if you're doing things sensibly.

Hi
I'd suggest getting into a sport which is winter-proof and that you need some friends who do the same sport/hobby.
For me, (ya ya talking about myself again), it was tennis for last 5 years. My aching back was gone.
For others, it can be gym, aerobics classes, dancing classes, walking, hiking, so many to do.
What you really need is a bunch of friends (new or existing) who encourages you on.
Good luck!
PS: I don't advocate special diets, just a sensible diet with veg, meats, etc will do.

| | | Quote: | | | | | Which is why you will loose weight! | | | | | No you'll actually gain weight this way, if you don't take in enough calories for your body, your metabolism will slow down and your body will go into starvation mode, which basically means ANYTHING you eat will be stored and your body will cling to it causing you to put on weight! That's why there is a saying "starve yourself fat, eat yourself skinny"
If you drink your two litres of water, on top of that have a cup of green tea before and after each meal, eat small but relatively healthy meals regularly throughout the day and go for a brisk walk if you can two or three times a week you will see a huge difference in yourself! I swear by green tea, the stuff is amazing!!
Good luck! | | The following 5 users would like to thank LilyLoo for this useful post: | |

Good luck! | | | | | I can tell you it will work, if you eat 1000 calories a day for 90 days & burn up 2000 calaries a day you will lose about 11.5 kilo. The secret is not to go from eating 1000 back to 2500 and be surprised the weight returns in 6 months it will!
