In the (slightly adapted) words of the Bard;
"Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodbye 'til it be next week".
Enjoy your mini-break!

I am on the other side of this coin- sat packing after a week of doing the 'family' tour.
I WANT to be back in Switzerland but right now feel like my heart is being ripped out, as I say goodbye to everyone... Especially, as while been here the doctors have written to send dad to hospital as they suspect bowel cancer.
I guess expats have to learn to live with guilt, being damned if you do and damned if you don't...
Enjoy the ME time. I will be enjoying my day tomorrow which will give me enough time to stuff all these emotions well and truly back into their box- til the next time!
Gal xx

Gal xx | | | | | It's a strange life that we live isn't it?
I know exactly what you mean, I always want to come back to Switzerland after a visit with the family, but it is so hard leaving them.
I hope your dad's treatment goes well and he makes a full recovery. This sounds strange as I don't know you (except on this wonderful forum of course) or him, but give him my best wishes.
I've just had a lovely few hours at the Baden Stadtfest, enjoyed all the sights and sounds (it's amazing!) and the fantastic weather, treated myself to lunch, I'm now home with my glass of chilled white and just had a chat with hubby in England .
Hope you are okay Galatea.

I am indulging in some fudge which I bought at the Stadtfest as I type though, which is very enjoyable.
Fingers crossed for your dad, I'm from the north(west) too so I know what you mean, we're made of stern stuff.
Have a lovely evening. | | The following 2 users would like to thank hannah'sauntie for this useful post:

I must be made of a finer grit ( being northern but from another continent. )
last time mrs g. had a few days away with her family I thought I'd have a nice time being a bachelor again ... instead I just moped around the round in my boxers , scratchin' 'n fartin'
gawd I missed that girl.

Well, I don't know about being selfish, but I've spent all day cleaning, ironing, shopping, making beds, then I'm getting up early tomorrow to do some food prep, a woman's work and all that!
You know what though? I've really enjoyed getting ready for hubby's return, and he's bringing his lovely daughter and beautiful 4 year old granddaughter with him, can't wait!
Btw, it's not all been hard work, I've managed to eat a few choccies and drink a glass or two of wine in the sunshine. |

We had the best weekend!
Went to Lenzburg castle, saw a dragon, hubby's little granddaughter had a great time dressing up as a princess. We went on the funfair at the Baden Stadtfest, went to the zoo, lots of icecream, etc etc. We adults had a great time too, reverting back to childhood .
We saw them off yesterday at the airport where there were tears from all of us.
It was all very lovely, now I have to tackle the tidying and cleaning. Our flat seems very quiet .
Here's to the next time.

great dragon !! ... and hey guess what.. going off topic..
there is a place in PEI ( eastern Canada ) where they have scale model replica's of various tourist sites in England including a Tower of London with a dungeon and a skeleton in the pit... I for years ( as a kid mind you ) thought that was real.
I took mrs. G there early on in our relationship, to show her where I grew up, played here etc... then about 3 months after that I saw the real Tower of London, Windsor Castle, etc... It just wasn't the same as my playground. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodleigh_Replicas

That sounds amazing! Things like that are great for kids. I can just imagine a minnie grynch running around the 'Tower of London' . What a pity it's now closed.
As a child I used to love looking round minature villages, imagining I was a giant! We used to go to this one in Babbacombe when we were on holiday in Torquay. http://www.babbacombemodelvillage.co.uk/ | | This user would like to thank hannah'sauntie for this useful post:
