Swiss auction sites Ricardo/eBay

A thread in the "For Sale" section made me wonder.

Anyone else noticed the "ambitious" price expectations of many items for sale on the Swiss sections of ricardo and eBay? Not talking about the professional vendors, but rather the "only 5 years old, starting bids from 80% of the shop price" type of auctions.

Some other funny behaviour seems to include starting to bid immediately even with a week to go, thus inflating the price and interest in the article days before the auction end.

Dont quite know what it says about the pysche? Thoughts?

It's normal to give 3 months notice to do many things, so bidding 10 days before the end would seem normal in that context.

"Grüezi Mitenand - I have a 4 year old Nikon DSLR that I have looked after extremely well and it looks the same as the day it came out of it's box. I realise this model has been updated twice since I bought it and is now 100 francs cheaper brand new, but like I said I am Swiss and have treated the item with massive respect & cleaned it a lot. Therefore I think I'm entitled to ask for pretty much what I paid for it.
Why are you laughing? - I fail to see what you think is so funny"

So I'm not alone. On the plus side if you put something half way decent on for 1 chuff, the auction tends to fly away, once sold an old rear projection TV for 250, starting at 1, and in fact I'd have paid someone to come and lug the 70kg beast away down the stairs.

Hi Everyone - I have a 14 year old car (don't ask me what type or for pics) that I have looked after, well not really, but it looks the same as the day it came out of it's box, except 14 years on. I realise this model has been updated fourteen times since I bought it and is now 10000 francs cheaper brand new, but like I said I am an expat and have treated the item with very little respect & cleaned it, well at least considered cleaning it. Therefore I think I'm entitled to ask for pretty much what I paid for it. But don't ask me how much I paid for it, or why I am selling it.

Re: Swiss auction sites Ricardo/eBay

I usually sell/buy stuff on Ricardo you can sometimes get good deals.
The products I sell, I do at 50% retail price or less and some bids I start at 1CHF when the item has been in my store for too long. Still Swiss are money pinchers, they expect you to pay top price for their crap but don't want to pay you a fair price for what you are selling...

Yes one can get a pleasant surprise selling on ebay, it is very funny how the odd thing that is acurately described - suddenly the whole wants it
But, then something decent sells at low price, but hey ho -dont want & happy to get my space back.
Just do get pissed off when something large sells for a chuff & then the buyers does not come to collect for weeks / or one has to go through the whole re-listing and waiting saga again.
Love the different ways individuals pack good. Recently got a 2nd hand laptop for a friend & the packing was 2kilos of individual 100g microwave popcorn packets - when I gave to my friend, he wanted to give me a microwave - but I said no the popcorn was for him - tee-hee

Re: Swiss auction sites Ricardo/eBay

I had a look at a TRX selling on Ricardo (which I believe was fake) and it cost 120CHF and I looked at gumtree in the UK and the same TRX (which I also believe was fake) was selling for 60GBP. Both were brand new yet there was a substantial difference in the price.

Suffice to say I purchase all my goods from the US or UK and then collect them when I fly home for the weekend once a month, there's no way I'd pay the prices here.

Ebay & Ricardo either have things at a auction/ bidding level or a buy it now price.

I would attempt to give you some lessons on Ebay (not Ricardo as have a hard enough time myself with the languages).

With Ebay items at Auction have a finish time and date, whoever is the higher bidder usually is the winner.
With Ricardo, if there are bidders with similar prices, then it can go on further once the time finishes, not sure the time frames, maybe 10minutes each time, but believe only open to those who have already bid on the item.

1) Before I go further with Ebay do you have an Ebay Account?

Believe it takes a day or two to set up

2) how would you pay?

Many people set up a Paypal account and that takes several days to set up, due to the security for it.
As a buyer you can either link Paypal to a Credit card or your Bank Account.
As a Seller believe it has been to be linked to your Bank Account, but one can first be a buyer and later then later make changes to be a Seller

3) some items are for pick up only and then you pay cash, you would need to read the item description for this. Some items are listed for posting or pick up. If only listed for posting and you notice Seller is close to you, you would need to message them before bidding to ask if you could pick up if you won the Auction. For a number of reasons some Sellers do no allow pick up.
I like pick up as then one can check the item is as described, if not, then you walk away. It is the same if I am selling, if a buyer not happy they can walk away & I cancel the transaction so as not to pay the Ebay selling fees.

I will wait and see your response to when you have Ebay account and how you would pay

Ebay rocks and PayPal gives you protection when you purchase so you can get you money back
