Where to spend a night in Bern?

I'll have to be in Bern for one day in a few weeks and given the fact it is a long train journey from here, arriving the evening before and spending the night there would be much more convenient.

Can anyone recommend a place where I could stay for the night and that won't cost me an arm and a leg? I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a bed where to get some rest before leaving early in the morning (but I'd prefer not to share the room with others).

Thanks in advance.

Re: Where to spend a night in Bern?

There is a campground near the city center that rents little cabins. They are cheap and in a nice spot, close to transit (just google campground).

Re: Where to spend a night in Bern?

We stayed in Hotel Landhaus, near the Bärengarten, when we first arrived in Switzerland. They were reasonably priced and the service was great.

Or stagger out into the street and get done for being drunk and disorderly.
Warm, secure cell for the night and a hot breakfast in the morning oh and a mahoosive fine

I've considered that option, but I've ruled it out on the grounds that being a foreigner I would probably end up with my permit revoked and kicked out of the country instead.

Now, that would totally foil my long-term plans, considering the very reason why I'm going to be in Bern is to volunteer my services to the country.

Frankly, it can't be duller than Tessin.

The mere fact I consider this trip a diversion should give you an idea of how dull life is here.
