Great! The forum, my endless source, of info is back. Does anybody live in, or have any advice about, Romanel-sur-Lausanne. I know it's a smaller village, I know the founder of IKEA shops at the Migros there, but is it a good place for 2 young kids. And how easy is it to get to EPFL. I'll welcome any opinions and comments.

In my opinion Romanel is well suited for small children but advice you go and look into it.
Getting to EPFL by public transport is a bit time-consuming but possible: LEB train to Lausanne Chauderon (15-20 minutes) then the ZOLL train (like an open metro) to EPFL (another 20 minutes). I have no idea about the frequency of either trains..... By car, it is very close. No need to go to Lausanne, just straight down from Romanel to the lake...

Further, school-wise, I am a bit out of touch. Normal schooling (primary school all the way) was possible till 16 years old, but if the children are going to college (secondary school), they will have to go to Prilly or Lausanne. They can also use the LEB train from Romanel to Lausanne. Otherwise, as far as entertainment is concerned, I do not know what things are organised especially for the children. One would have to get in touch with "la Commune". There is of course the sport club on the other side of Migros, where one can play tennis and squash and I think they have programs for children. They use to have a pool, I do not know if it is still there. It is possible to horse-ride in Cheseaux (5 minutes by car from Romanel). You know in Romanel, you are fast in nature. That's the good point about the place. You can go for walks in the woods. Depends what you want.... I don't know if Romanel still has a basketball team either... Depends also on the age of the children....
