Hello, please forgive me as I realize this thread is prob. redundant and misplaced. I just spent 30 minutes searching the forum and the internet for an answer and could not find one.

How do I recycle cans and glass in the Gundeldingen area of Basel?

Any advice, links to other threads, etc...is appreciated.

Just go to your nearest recycling station, located on streets all over Basel.

There's a couple of places in the area:
Telplatz, round the back of the Casino restaurant.
Then also at the COOP and Migros in the area (near station, on Guterstrasse, and of course MParc)

If you are at the zoo end then there is the station and erdbeergraben - the metal recycle station was missing last week though, resulting in about 20 bags of cans on the floor.

The stations are meant to be used mon-sat 0700 - 1900 but this one is next to the train line with no houses so I use it any time i need, even on a sunday at 2000 hrs - oh im so bad !

This is probably a redundant question, but...

If I have tin cans (canned foods, etc), I can either put them out with my bi-monthly pick up (Basel) or take them.... where?

I don't think that I can deposit them in the local recycle parks (aluminium and glass only) but do I have any other options? I think that I can take them to Birsfelden, but that's not exactly "handy".

AFAIK the recycling points are not fussy about the metal. You should be able to put tins and alu in the same recycling bin. I certainly have, on the expectation that any metal will usually go under a magnet for sorting before it goes for melting.

Does the city care if I crush the aluminum cans before dropping them into the big bins?

The bins have crushers on them.

I'm not sure you have a choice. If memory serves me, there's just a slot below the crusher so you can't get a round can in.
